PBA Governors Cup Finals: ROS winning without Paul Lee, is that surprising?

No Paul Lee? No Problem, at least for Game 3
I am not a Rain or Shine faithful, but I was cheering for Rain or Shine for the Finals of the Governors Cup because of Jonathan Uyloan, Ryan Arana and Paul Lee. Coming into Game 3 with a loss, I would always have in my mind Yeng Guiao's Post-Game Interview back in Game 2.

"We will not give any excuses, we will win this, with or without Paul Lee".

The performance of the "Angas ng Tondo" was far from what is expected from a rookie, He outplayed the expectations when he was not the top pick (he was 2nd to Jayvee Casio) and is now the leading contender for the Rookie of the Year Award. ROS opponents respect his ball-handing, play making and shooting skills that he attracts a lot of defenders whenever he has the ball. Now in the Finals for the first time in franchise history, ROS' best local player is down but they are never out and they proved it Friday by winning without Paul Lee, who was at the Coliseum with his shoulder wrapped in a sling.

With Paul Lee out of the action for possibly the entire series (though he mentioned it is on a day-to-day), ROS fans had seen more playing time and touches for Jeff Chan, Ryan Arana, Jireh Ibanes, TY Tang. Jireh came with a hot start with 10 points just in the first half while Chan, Arana and the rest of the ROS gunners hit their threes to eventually pull away in the Game 3. Their Best Import, Jamelle Cornley rose from having a poor game prior to Game 3 and prove their spectators wrong that he deserves the Best Import Award. The biggest difference of the last night's game to Game 2 was they were not standing, they were moving the ball and attacking the Llamados defense. There was a few sequences that Belga had the chance to drive at the basket. ROS players and Yeng Guiao proved that people should never downplay their chances. Now with ROS winning without Paul Lee, is that surprising?

NO, with Yeng Guiao's masterful coaching and the confidence he has been giving players, they stand a chance... and now they are 2 wins away from the championship.

Battle of the Law Schools for the Next CJ: UP law grads dominate

Done with the JBC interview for Chief Justice, how much educational credentials does the nominees present? It turns out, UP Law grads dominate the list of CJ nominees and if Pres. Aquino will choose one from UP, it is a continued tradition of public service in the Judiciary from the highest level.

A Basketball Standpoint: What has Rain or Shine been doing right this conference?

There is a saying that the early bird catches the worm and ROS, amongst the other teams left for contention in the finals has their faith in their hands having 2 more games left as of this writing. There is no surprise to what they had pull through this conference, what have they done right?

JAMELLE CORNLEY coming in early
The ROS Import has been with them since early May, enough to gain enough familiarity with the team in the short tournament like the Governors Cup. Probably the #1 contender for the Best Player of the Conference Award, Jamelle is here to steer ROS to it's first finals appearance or probably, their first championship.

ANGAS ng TONDO Paul Lee and his Rookie of the Year -like Performance
The Season Awards may not be in but for me, Paul Lee is the perfect fit for Rookie of the Year. He blended well with his ROS counterparts who are seasoned veterans in the league as well as the players had treated Paul not just as a rookie but a veteran by trusting him in making plays and becoming the floor general of the team.

Extra-Rice Brothers of Destruction improved 3-pt shooting.
Rain or Shine's Extra-Rice Brothers of Destruction Beau Belga and J.R. Quinahan has definitely improved their three-point shooting and when they start catching fire, they shoot lights out so beware of the two.

Yeng Guiao's vast coaching experience
Early preparation allowed ROS Coach Yeng Guiao to prepare his wards for the Governors Cup, coming off a dismal Commissioner's Cup with a 3-6 standing, he has continuously molded the game of his players by letting them know their roles off the court.

Players letting one another SHINE
There is no constant game hero for ROS, some games it can be Norwood, Arana, Lee or even the likes of Belga who had been shooting lights out. They know who is hot when they see it and since the team is a mixture of veteran, young guns, role players and stars, they give each other an opportunity to shine.

How far can the Elasto Painters go this 2012 Governors Cup? It is us to wait and see ;)

MMDA's New Guidelines and Penalties for Private and Public Vehicles in EDSA

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) issues new and stricter guidelines for private and public vehicles traversing EDSA.

According the guidelines, all city buses should be inside the yellow line and city and provincial buses are prohibited to pass through the underpass and tunnel at the same time. However, these buses are allowed to use the Magallanes flyover.

Provincial buses
Provincial buses are now allowed at the flyover and use the third lane of EDSA. However, they have to strictly implement loading and unloading in authorized provincial bus stops.

Provincial bus stops:
Northbound
Magallanes/Dasmariñas Village
Ortigas Avenue
Santolan MRT Station
Quezon Avenue
North Avenue (Trinoma)
Southbound
Oliveros Drive Balintawak
Roosevelt Avenue
Muñoz
West Avenue
Quezon Avenue
Ortigas Avenue (POEA)
Taft Avenue

City buses
North bound buses can use the Ortigas Flyover.

Private vehicles
For private vehicles, they can only use the bus lanes to turn right to and exit the side roads in EDSA. Loading and unloading passengers are allowed in the bus lane provided the area is 50 meters away from an intersection and should be within 15 seconds.

New fines and penalties for violations:
Private vehicles and taxis with passengers inside the bus (yellow) lanes – P500
Public buses outside the designated bus (yellow) lanes – P200
Loading/Unloading violation – P500
Close Door Policy – P1000
Abrupt Change of Lane (Reckless Driving) – P500

A Basketball Standpoint: What to Look Forward to with Petron Blaze Boosters

The 2011 Governors Cup Champions are already out from defending their title, but instead of dwelling on what-ifs, it is high time to look on what to look forward on the all-star line-up of Petron Blaze come the 2012-2013 Philippine Cup.

New Coach?

RAJKO TOROMAN, rumored to take Ato Agustin's place next season.

The Serbian Coach has made the hearts of the SMC officials and of course, if you are an SMC official, you would not hire Toroman to be a consultant on a team forever, he would have to be a coach sooner or later - with Cone's success with Llamados and with the resurgence of Mark Caguioa helping Siot's Ginebra Gin Kings, it is most likely that Toroman would probably call the shots for PBB. Toroman can help identify player's roles and put them on the efficient way they can be.

A Healthy Marcio Lassiter

Marcio, Petron's acquisition on a five man trade with Powerade (Marcio + Celino (who eventually played for Barako) for Rabeh, Rey and Lordy) is the player to watch out for Petron. His presence on the hardcourt is sorely missed this conference.

PBA Draft

Petron has a good number of picks for the 2012 Rookie Draft, they can make use of it to strengthen their lineup. There is an interesting cast of draft applicants that might catch the eye of the coaching staff of PBB.

Chris Lutz signing a fresh contract

If there is one amongst the many PBB players who deserves a fresh contract, it would probably be Chris Lutz. Away from all the injuries that he had on his first year, Chris knows his offense and defense pretty well, can take the shot and make shots for his team mates. He is a take-charge guy. It would be ugly on a shake-up if he would be wearing another uniform.

RECALL: Petron gave Lutz a 1-year contract only.

It took me a long while to find the right card that can verify my Paypal account. Don't get me wrong, I had not yet intended to withdraw using my Paypal account but I needed one for those Pay-to-Click sites I had been using. I felt relieved when I first saw BPI My E-Prepaid.
To open a BPI My E-Prepaid account, you would need to go to a branch and wait for 5 days or it is best for you to do it online. (I did mine online and I got it in 2 weeks at my BPI branch because I stll had to finish some schoolwork ). You would have to present your purchase agreement and a fee worth 500 pesos to the section of your nominated branch that releases the card. Yes, the fee is 500 pesos for 2 years validity.

After acquiring the card, you can load it through the following (listed the convient ways)
1. If you have BPI Express Online account, you can register your BPI EPrepaid card to be able to receive Funds Transfer from your registered BPI, BPI Family Bank or BPI Direct Account.
2.You can load it through the Special Services section of your BPI Express Teller account, it works the same for BPI Express Cash.
3. You can also check out some branches availability of Cash Deposit Machines where you can insert notes (P 100, 500 and 1000 respectively)

For paypal verification, you should have loaded at least P 200 on your account. I had loaded P 300.00

After which, you can go to your Paypal Account:
1. Add your BPI My EPrepaid as a credit/debit card and the 3-digit CVC code at the back of your card to your PayPal account. Click on the Verify link to initiate the process.
2. After doing so, email myeprepaid@bpi.com.ph to get your Expuse Code. It took me the next day after emailing to get my expuse code. You would have to include your email and card number.
3. If you have registered your card with BPI Express Online, you can check it with the last 5 transactions on your portfolio.
4. Enter the EXPUSE code to be able to verify your account.
