ABS-CBN's noontime variety show "It's Showtime" faces another controversy after one of its audience unexpectedly delivered a foul word during a "fliptop battle" (showdown of rap) for the show's "Sine Mo 'To" segment.
On its live episode aired Tuesday, October 23, hosts Vice Ganda and Jhong Hilario picked two from the "madlang people" who will serve as actors and win cash prizes. They eventually picked two boys (presumable teenagers) to participate in a fliptop battle.
Fliptop is a balagtasan-style rap which has become famous in the Philippines.
The first boy started the fliptop with the lines: "Fliptop ka nang Fliptop, wala ka namang laptop. Ito piso, pambili ng lollipop."
The boy received cheers from the audience, so the second boy had to redeem himself but by uttering an unexpected and awful response:
"Di ka naman marunong mag-fliptop, ala ka pa laptop, isubo mo na lang t*** ko, gawin mong lollipop." (The second boy was referring to his genitals.)
Stunned, a moment of silence filled the "It's Showtime" studio. Vice Ganda then scolded the second boy by pulling his hair out as he was escorted out of the show.
The hosts apologized for the unprecedented incident, saying they reminded the two boys beforehand not to say any bad words.
Last January 2010, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) imposed suspension for "Showtime" after the derogatory remark of actress Rosanna Roces against teachers.
Stated on MTRCB's implementing rules and regulations, MTRCB said that "officers and/or owners of television networks and production companies shall be held responsible for any violation of pertinent laws arising from or by reason of all their television programs."
"The BOARD shall not hesitate to impose penalties and fines, cancel permits and licenses, and cause the prosecution of all those found guilty of violating said pertinent laws," it added.
