Bank warns public about the ATM scam

Bank of the Philippine Islands has warned their depositors regarding the scam involving their automated teller machines in Paranaque City.

Two depositors lost thousands of pesos because of multiple transactions on different locations. There are also specific machines in Paranaque which had the same experience, one in BF Homes and Presidents Avenue.

BPI promised to return the money of their depositors, however it is advised to do the following tips when transacting via ATM:

* Pins should be changed regularly
* Withdraw on secure ATM locations or trusted sites.
* Depositors must cover with their hand while key-in their PIN.

BPI brings forth new mobile banking app

BPI Mobile Banking App allows you to pay using your Smart Phone (photo: Gadgets Magazine/Racine Castro article)

Technology is evolving everyday, including the way we can pay.

Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) recently introduced its newest innovation in the market: the BPI Mobile Wallet, which would allow its clients to pay using their smart phone.

How would you do it?

Using Near-Field Communication (NFC), the BPI Mobile Wallet allows clients to install a device on their phone and turn their phone to a "virtual wallet" without the need of carrying too much cash or the tempting credit/debit cards.

All you need to do is to tap your device into the TAP terminals to complete it easily and real-time.

Initially, the BPI Mobile Wallet is available on the following for clients using the following smart phones: BlackBerry Bold 9780, BlackBerry Bold 9700, BlackBerry Curve 8520 and iPhone 4S with iOs 4 and 5.

It is currently accepted at Metro Manila Banapple and Serenitea branches, as well as selected Kenny Rogers, Seattle’s Best, Healthy Options, Fully Booked, Evita Peroni, and Mango branches.

BPI currently offers electronic banking through BPI Express Online, BPI Express Mobile, and BPI Express Phone. BPI also has existing electronic payments through its Credit Cards, EPS, and the BPI Mobile Mall java app.

The Conveniences of Online Banking

With the conveniences of technology, gone are the days when you waste your time on banks for your transactions, online banking has helped made a difference. It is considered to be done faster, simple and secure and could be done anytime of the day.

1. Paying Bills
Your Globe Bills, your daughter's tuition fee or even donating to your chosen organization can be done through banking online. You just have to sign up your bill with your online banking profile by providing its account number and presto, as long as you have cash on your account, you can already pay your bill, no need to wait for those bills that might get lost in the mail.

2. Transferring Money from one Account to the Other
Whenever payroll comes, you would normally withdraw a certain amount of money to save and with online banking, you can do just that as long as both of your accounts are linked to your profile. As long as your account has been confirmed, you can transfer/deposit to your account anytime, even if it is after banking hours.

Interbanking transfers are still on the works though I believe only www.bancnetonline.com allows that.

3. Online Shopping
With your credit card or prepaid card like BPI My E-Prepaid, you can do online shopping. However, do remember that online shopping is a no-no if you are buying clothes/shoes, only do it for those which you do not have to fit. :) Online shopping also makes you see the trends without having to compete with so much people, especially when its on sale.

4. Reloading Prepaid Phones
Enroll your prepaid numbers within your online banking profile so you would just have to buy your load online and know that it would directly reach you. However, a bank only supports 1 to 2 mobile service providers so do check your banks out before enrolling your number.

5. Balance Inquiry
Online banking allows you to check your balance online, you would not have to run to your bank/ATM machine to check your balance. If you happen to be a businesswoman, you can see it in detail who paid you in your online banking portfolio.
