Talk and Text Tropang Texters, 2013 Philippine Cup Champions

Talk and Text secures their place in league history as they sweep Rain or Shine Elasto Painters (105-82) Wednesday night to take home the Emilio "Jun" Bernardino Perpetual Trophy which is given to the team that wins 3 consecutive Philippine Cup championships.

Before the tip-off, Jayson Castro, also of the Tropang Texters was awarded the Best Player of the Conference award. He bested 4 other candidates: His team mate, Ranidel De Ocampo, Alaska's Rookie Calvin Abueva, Petron's Arwind Santos and Meralco's Solomon Mercado.

Talk and Text throughout the game played well defensively, limiting E-Painters chance to catch up during the final quarter and taking the fight out of them.

Ranidel "Ranidirk" De Ocampo was awarded as the Papa John's PBA Press Corp Finals MVP.

This is Coach Norman Black's 11th championship as a coach in the PBA, his last one was with the Sta. Lucia Realtors back in 2001 before he went coaching into UAAP's Ateneo De Manila to which he won 5 straight titles.

Finals Watch: Jimmy Alapag of the Talk and Text Tropang Texters

Much has been said about Talk and Text and let's face it, it's because they are the Back-to-Back Philippine Cup champions. While this is a loaded team with a very seasoned PBA coach in Norman Black, we look at Talk and Text closer to its captain, the Mighty Mouse, Jimmy Alapag.

Jimmy does not need to score 20+ points every game but they win, it is probably because they had played together for a long time and had known each other on how they play on court. Jimmy is in the playing court to restore order when needed, create for his team mates and make his own shots - the long threes I should say and lead his team to victory.

Hate him or love him, Jimmy has proven a long way ever since he was drafted in 2003, championships, individual awards, national team experiences, aaaaahhh! there's actually a lot to say about this man (but it would not fit the title Finals Watch anymore since it should be short).

While I am not actually a Talk and Text fan, I give recognition to its team and the men behind it. I know this series would be as tough as it is advertised and Jimmy and the Tropang Texters will have their hands full against Jeff Chan and the rest of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters come finals which would tip off January 9.

Finals Watch: Jeff Chan of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters

Before the start of the 2013 Philippine Cup Finals between Rain or Shine vs. Talk and Text, News Bits Online would be highlighting some of the key players of the series, starting of with last year's Most Improved Player, Jeff Chan.

Jeff Chan rose to the challenge of Coach Yeng Guiao by helping Rain or Shine finish San Mig Coffee in 6 games last January 3 with his 27 points despite not starting and entering the game on the 2nd quarter, He would be expected to show up with a loaded Talk and Text team gunning for the Jun Bernardino (Perpetual) trophy.
