Facebook: Most Popular Way to Send Holiday Greetings - poll

Social networking site Facebook is the most popular way of sending holiday greetings this year, according to a poll conducted by abs-cbnNEWS.com.
The online poll, which covered 715 respondents from across the globe, showed that nearly half (46.43%) greeted their friends this holiday season via Facebook, while text messaging was a distant second at 27.27%.
E-mail came in third place with 12.87%, followed by chat and instant messaging (5.87%), Twitter (4.48%), snail mail (1.68%), telegram (1.12%), and fax (0.28%).
Social networking sites have been gaining ground in the Philippines as these make sending messages easier and less time-consuming. A simple touch of a key or a click of a mouse allows Facebook users, for instance, to send a greeting or a photo to hundreds of people.
Before the rise of social networks, text messaging is the most popular way of sending holiday greetings to friends and loved ones in the Philippines.

Chris Alexander's Status Message goes viral

The former Ginebra Kings import, Chris Alexander (Mr. Toothpick) awaken the emotions of BGK fans who are awaiting for the next conference to see their favorite team play. In this status, Chris Alexander seemed to be mindful about the selection of the Ginebra import and he feels he is not Ginebra's top choice for the Commissioner's Cup by February.

Ramgen Revilla and Janelle Manahan Bathroom Video Scandal

It seemed like that even during the holidays, ill-minded people would not take a break.

A video and images of the late Ramgen Revilla and his girlfriend, Janelle Manahan are currently circulating the net, a trending topic amongst blogs and search engines.

I find this very ill and unfair for Janelle, who currently stands as a witness to the murder of her beau. Why do this? To derail Janelle's mind to saying of what she really saw that happened during the murder? What do you think is the purpose? From my standpoint, I guess this was to prove that Janelle's not a credible witness.

Sources say that it was uploaded at Facebook but it was taken down because of the content that violates Facebook TOS.

Let us just hope that justice may be served for Janelle and Ramgen. To Filipinos  who would make a buzz about this video, have a little shame on yourself....

Year of Upsets in Basketball for 2011

With the year 2011 about to close, I guess it is time to relieve the great basketball moments that happened in the Collegiate, Philippine and National Basketball which proved that 2011 is a year of the upsets for basketball.

PCCL: San Sebastian Stags (winning over Ateneo Blue Eagles) to become PCCL Champions

Entering the PCCL 2011 match with a twice-to-beat advantage worked wonders for the San Sebastian Stags as they managed to outdo the Ateneo De Manila Blue Eagles 73-67 at the San Juan Arena.

Riding on the shoulders of 2 of their Big Three after the injury to Ronald Pascual which sidelined him during PCCL was enough to bring him the championship. During that game, NCAA MVP Calvin Abueva had 20 points and 17 rebounds while Ian Sangalang, adjuged as the 2011 Philippine Collegiate Championship MVP had 19 points along with 15 rebounds - 8 of which in the offensive end.

This is the first coaching title of Coach Topex Robinson, coming from their defeat against NCAA Champions: San Beda Red Lions.

PBA:  2011 Governors Cup Champions, Petron Blaze Boosters

After getting through the finals with a superior quotient than Ginebra & Alaska, PBA fans believed that the championship between the Talk and Text Tropang Texters and the Petron Blaze Boosters would bring Tropa close to a grand-slam (they've won the first 2 conferences).  The Blaze Boosters, playing without Jay Washington, Rabeh Al Hussaini, Joseph Yeo and Lordy Tugade from that time-being showed that they can win the championship starting from the buzzer-beater of Danny Ildefonso from their import Anthony Grundy. The series went to 7 games, with the Blaze Boosters showing that team defense can win the championship.

Arwind Santos was adjudged as Best Player of the Conference & Finals MVP.  This was also Coach Ato Agustin's first pro title and a great year for him, leading his wards to the finals 2 out of the 3 conferences for the 2010-2011 season.

The Race to the PBA 2011-12 Philippine Cup Semifinals:  Powerade beating B-MEG twice

When David met Goliath (B-Meg), everybody expected that Goliath  would have an upperhand and go straight to the PBA Philippine Cup Semifinals, but they had proven critics wrong as David had beaten Goliath twice to gain a seat in the Semifinals.

The 2nd game was won in convincing fashion: 131-123 victory with Powerade hitting 22 3 pointers. The team, lead by Gary David and rookies Marcio Lassiter and Jvee Casio would go up against the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters on Jan. 4 (Wednesday) at Cuneta Astrodome.

The Race to the PBA 2011-2012 Philippine Cup Semifinals: Rain or Shine ousts  crowd-favorite, Ginebra

I was there during the first game of the ROS-Ginebra series, everytime Ginebra scores, the Big Dome totally rocked, but when Rain or Shine kept going to their threes and their Lethal Weapon, rookie Paul Lee, they were able to shut Ginebra's 6th Man, the crowd and make the momentum ship towards them going to Game 2.

Game 2 was totally a Rain or Shine game: With 41 pts during the first quarter, it seemed like there was no way to stop the ROS juggernaut, everyone has stepped up, from the likes of Paul Lee, Jeff Chan, Ryan Arana, Gabe Norwood even to the tandem of JR Quinahan and Beau Belga who continuously hit from the three-point arc which Ginebra failed to respect.

With them winning, newcomers are in the other bracket of PBA Semis: ROS versus Powerade.

NBA: After 31 years, Dallas Mavericks is now NBA Champion

A team made up of stars and role-players, this is how I described the 2011 NBA Champions, Dallas Mavericks, who after 31 years in the league has won the championship and can call themselves a champion.

The team lead by Finals MVP Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Terry (two of the remaining members from the 2006 team that lost to Miami) and Jason Kidd had lead Dallas in conquering Miami's big three, Chris Bosh, Lebron James and Dwayne Wade.

Alerts for Sendong released December 14 - Y SO MANY DEAD?

Malacañang said the government relayed alerts to local government units (LGUs) on tropical storm Sendong as early as December 14.

Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) passed on information either through SMS or fax.

In view of mixed reports about the timeliness of the warnings, Valte said this would be looked into by the fact-finding group tasked by the President to find out what contributed to the massive death toll.

She said she would also suggest to PAGASA to make weather bulletins more comprehensible by the layman.

WHY SO MANY DEAD IF WARNINGS WERE SENT EARLY?  PONDER PONDER.

Azkals vs. Internacional Madrid January 7, 2012 Charity Match For Typhoon Sendong Victims

The Philippine Azkals would go up against Internacional de Madrid on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

The match is a charity match to support the victims of Typhoon Sendong which is titled as "Dili Ka Nag-iisa" .

The match will also serve as a tune-up game for the Azkals as they prepare for the AFC Challenge Cup 2012.

Suns signs former All-Star Michael Redd

Hoping to revive his career that has been riddled with injuries for the past 3 seasons, Michael Redd, a former All-Star and Bucks Team Captain signed a one year veteran minimum-deal of $ 1.3 million with the Phoenix Suns.

Redd left the Milwaukee Bucks at the end of last season, the final year of his six-year, $91 million contract he signed with the Bucks in 2005. Injuries to his left knee cost him most of the last three seasons. Redd played in 33 games in 2008-09, 18 games in 2009-10 and 10 games in 2010-11.

The most successful BBP batch from the year 2000-present: BBP 2005 (Gionna Cabrera (Ms. Universe '05 Special Award), Carlene Aguilar (Ms. World '05 Semifinalist) and Precious Lara Quigaman (Miss International 2005)

Dallas Mavericks Championship Banner Raising

They may have started out flat with the Heat and Nuggets (0-2) but for Mavericks' hopefuls like me, they are still the Defending Champions and I believe they could bounce back.

Here's the video of their Championship Banner raising held Christmas Day.

The Brains behind the popular "Ate Vangie"

You may live in the mountains if you have not encountered "Ate Vangie".

"Ate Vangie", is a fictional Filipino counterpart of the Apple's Siri, a voice assistant which could even understand Filipino's Carabao English -- the video has made waves over the past week with over a million views to date.

But contrary to popular belief, "Ate Vangie" is not paid by Apple or any local telecom company. Ate Vangie is a brainchild of Gung Ho Films , an advertising house penetrating the industry.

Gung Ho Films Paolo Dy told GMA News that they looked at advertising trends and viral marketing is the way to go.

He also explained that every viral video has its own character. The things that make a video go viral would be different each time. You have to understand the situation, the climate, the mood of the people and tailor your material and strategy to ride whatever wave exists in the public at that moment.

Pinoy Humor was indeed important for its success, especially with People wanting to share the videos that appeal to them.

The reception of online Pinoys to Ate Vangie is relatively positive: some of them wishing that Ate Vangie was true. Gung Ho Films hope that they can ride on Ate Vangie's success.

In addition to her YouTube videos, "Vangie" also has accounts on Facebook (Facebook.com/AteVangie.PinoySiriand Twitter (Twitter.com/atevangie)...

There are sometimes I wish that there is really something like Ate Vangie... :D Developers  Challenge maybe :)

Maria Ozawa wants Pinoys for next film - NOT TRUE

It seemed like Temperatures are now low because the Maria Ozawa account proved to be a hoax.

As a follow-up comment to the "hello philippines" post, the alleged "Maria Ozawa" informed her Filipino fans that she bought a globe sim-card yesterday and encourage to message her via SMS or PM her through her "private" fb.

But with a closer look, the Maria Ozawa account was set up today (December 28) with less than 20 FB friends - all of them are males.

The account was deleted as of this writing.

Petron Blaze's Arwind Santos lead Best Player race

Proving no signs of slowing down after successfully winning the Governor's Cup Championship & the tournament's Best Player of the Conference Award, Arwind Santos of Petron Blaze is still proving that he can do it all over again  by leading the Best Player of the Conference Award after the quarterfinals of the 2011 PBA Philippine Cup.

Santos, the 6-foot-4 former FEU Stalwart leads the Statistical Points rankings with an average of 38.63 SPs a game, 6 points ahead of #2 Kelly Williams (Talk and Text) credit to his regular double-double showing throughout the tournament.

CURRENT BPC RANKING (average SPs per game)
1. Santos (PBB) - 38.63 SPs
2. Williams (TNT) - 32.92 SPs
3. Cabagnot (PBB) - 31.88 SPs
4. Yap (B-Meg) - 31.38 SPs
5. Carey (TNT) - 30.77 SPs
6. David (Powerade) - 30.69 SPs
7. Castro (TNT) - 30.64 SPs
8. Lassiter (Powerade) - 29.94 SPs
9. Miller (Barako) - 28.80 SPs
10. Thoss (Alaska) - 28.50 SPs

If this trend goes, Santos would be able to win back-to-back BPCs, which was done by Eric Menk and lately of Petron's Jay Washington

Maria Ozawa wants Pinoys for next film

photo from: Miyabi-Online.com

Temperatures rising (especially for those who really love her -- listen up Pinoy males) as Maria Ozawa, a Japanese porn star has expressed her desire to have Filipinos as her screen (and bed) partners for her next movie.

In her facebook page, she mentioned "Mabuhay Philippines".

She also posted in her page: ""Hello guys! Who wants bukkake? Audition will be on January 2012" . The post had 11,000 likes and at least 3,000 worth of shares and replies.

No one has yet to take the offer as of this writing.

The search for Corona replacement improper - ex-IBP head

Malacanang’s move to look for a possible replacement for Chief Justice Renato Corona “is not a sound decision and improper,” a former president of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) said Wednesday.
Jose Aguila Grapilon said Malacanang should not conduct a search for Corona’s replacement because the Chief Justice’s position is not yet vacant.
“Masyado naman yatang preemptive ’yan. I do not think they should be doing that,” Grapilon told reporters.
Grapilon is one of the five former IBP presidents who said that Corona’s impeachment is healthy for democracy.
However, Grapilon said looking for Corona’s replacement when the impeachment trial has not even started is not proper.
“I don’t think it’s proper. It is the JBC (Judicial and Bar Council) who will conduct the interviews and they will do that only when there is a vacancy,” he added.

Rain or Shine Elasto Painters: Ready to Paint themselves a CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY

Amongst the 4 remaining PBA teams in contention for the PBA Philippine Cup championship, it is Rain or Shine Elasto Painters who rarely had roster changes and improved their lineup to  what they are today. Of course, with a head coach as brilliant as of Yeng Guiao, Rain or Shine has proven themselves a contender & now has a 50% chance to enter the finals.

Rain or Shine has the capacity to load it up at the 3 point line, they have Jeff Chan, Ryan Arana, Ronjay Buenafe, Gabe Norwood and even the likes of Beau Belga and JR Quinahan who can consistently hit the three on a daily basis. An improved outside shooting for Belga and Quinahan did the damage when ROS beat Ginebra during the Quarterfinals Game 1. And of course, when open, Chan, Buenafe and Arana are deadly, they attract the defense of their opponents that sometimes lead to an open team mate, particularly their super rookie, Paul Lee.

Paul Lee may be a rookie but he has proven deserving of the trust of the ROS Coaching Staff. At the end of quarterfinals, he is a shot away of the Top 10 for BPC of the Philippine Cup. The second 2011 PBA Draftee is also a leading candidate this early for ROY and has wowed critics with his excellent playmaking and veteran-like wits in the court.

ROS has a very good support crew: TY Tang, Jireh Ibanez, Jervy Cruz, Jonathan Uyloan, Ronnie Matias, Chito Jaime who had all fared well with Coach Yeng's system. The series between ROS-Poweade is definitely something to watch for. Series begins: January 4 at the Cuneta Astrodome.

Under the Milk Code, government agencies cannot accept infant formula donations – from milk companies or individuals.

  • Breastmilk Bank – 17 Green Grove Villa, Lantana Rd., Barangay Mariana, New Manila, QC (office of Kalusugan ng Mag-Ina, Inc)
  • In Manila, drop off for breastmilk UP-PGH Human Milk Bank, 4th Floor, Left Central Block (LCB) c/o Tina or Grace or the NICU Fellow.
Freshly expressed breastmilk can last 3-4 months freezer. UP PGH Human Milk bank has a pasteurization machine so the milk can last longer. Breastmilk will be transported by UNICEF and its partners.
