Chua now Ginebra's Coach, Siot is lead assistant

Just as we usher 2013, Ginebra announced one of the biggest changes for their lineup as Alfrancis Chua moves up as Ginebra's Coach replacing Siot Tanquincen with the hopes to bring Ginebra back to where it was expected to be.

According to Ginebra governor and PBA chairman Robert Non, Siot was informed of the management decision Tuesday. He would be asked to slide down to assistant coach with the same salary as he is receiving right now and plans would be made to where the former UST role player should be.

Tanquincen won three championships with Ginebra, but in the last 4 conferences, the talent-laden team has failed to make the finals, even with the MVP performance of Mark Caguioa.

Chua on the other hand might not have won the championship but he is marked to be a "player's coach", hoping to get Ginebra San Miguel back on track.

Money Resolutions for Starters (like me)

You may have come across a lot of Money Resolutions over the internet published to usher in the New Year (Happy New Year everyone)! So I would just give myself a summary of those resolutions by giving you my TOP 5 Money Resolutions for 2013.

1. PAY YOURSELF FIRST
Yes, during the Holiday Season you tend to overspend (it's also true for me I believe I overspent) but now that the holiday festivities are over (New Year has arise), you can start paying yourself first, save before you pay your bills, no matter how little or how big you start with as long as you do it regularly, you would see the growth ;)
2. KEEP TRACK OF YOUR EXPENSES
My mom taught me that I should start keeping track of my expenses, too bad I failed to do that during last year now I would say that I would be doing that with the help of my 2013 Handy Dandy Notebook. :) You should keep track of your expenses to see if you have overspent.
3. PASSBOOK SAVINGS WORK WELL
If you have the money, then go for a new passbook account than an ATM based savings account, trust me it is much less tempting to withdraw than to have it within your ATM card.
4. SAY NO TO CREDIT CARDS
It is not bad to have credit cards (yes there is a certain point at our lives that we really need it) but if you can say NO, then don't use your credit cards. If you can buy it in cash, then go ;) You will see the difference (like discounts!)
5. IF YOU CAN'T SAY NO, PAY ALL
If you can't really do away with using your credit cards, then make sure you can pay your balance in full every month.

Happy New Year from News Bits Online

634 posts and 40,000+ views later, I would like to say thank you for all my readers and for trusting me to fill you with good stories. Let's be together again this year.

Happy New Year Everyone! :)

PBA Commissioner's Cup Import Update

[3rd Update]  We're not that excited (yeah)  and new year has not happened yet but we're here giving you the updates fresh as we know it on the teams and their imports for the upcoming PBA Commissioner's Cup which would start on February 8.

Ex-NBA player Renaldo Balkman is expected to banner Petron Blaze Boosters' Commissioner's Cup Tourney

1) Petron Blaze - RENALDO BALKMAN

Renaldo Balkman is the 20th Overall Pick of the New York Knicks in 2006. The 28-year-old moved to the Denver Nuggets in the 2008-2010 season before being reacquired by the Knicks in the 2010-2011 season. He is listed as 6-8 and was described by SMC Sports Director Noli Eala as "solid worker, hard nose defender and energy guy" for the Boosters.

2) Ginebra - HERBERT HILL
The 6-10 Hill is expected to help in the post-presence of Ginebra, who bowed out of contention in the PBA Philippine Cup. He was  second round at 55th overall by the Utah Jazz in the 2007 draft before he was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers.

3) Rain or Shine Elasto Painters - BRUNO SUNDOV
The 7-3 import Bruno Sundov is Rain or Shine's help for Commissioner's Cup. The Croatian caught the interest of other teams but landed into Rain or Shine and is considered by ROS Team Manager Boy Lapid as the perfect fit to Coach Yeng's system as they need a role player and someone who can shoot threes.

They also enjoy the opportunity of having Jamelle Cornley in town (former import of ROS during the last Governors Cup) to prepare Sundov. Jamelle chose to remain to the Philippines to recuperate from his ACL injury.

4) Global Port Batang Pier - JUSTIN WILLIAMS

Justin Williams is a PF/C who played for 2 NBA teams (Sacramento Kings and Houston Rockets). He last played for NBA D-League for the Los Angeles D-Fenders. He would banner the Commissioner's Cup campaign of Global Port Batang Pier.

5. SAN MIG COFFEE MIXERS - Matt Rogers

6. MERALCO BOLTS - Eric Dawson

7. TALK and TEXT TROPANG TEXTERS - Keith Benson

8. AIR 21 EXPRESS - Michael Dunnigan

9. ALASKA ACES - Robert Dozier

10. BARAKO BULL ENERGY -Evan Brock

[This is the final list of imports - Admin's Note]

Obama named Time's Person of The Year

United States President Barack Obama is Time's "Person of the Year" for 2012.

The announcement was made on Wednesday on NBC's "Today" show, AP reported.

In the short list for the honor are Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani teenager who was shot in the head for advocating for girls' education; Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi; Apple CEO Tim Cook; and Italian physicist Fabiola Giannati.

Obama also received the honor back in 2008, when he was President-elect.

The "Person of the Year" award goes to the person or thing that has most influenced the culture and the news during the past year for good or for ill.

Last year, "The Protester" got the honor. In 2010, it was Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Other winners are Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, Bono and President George W. Bush.

New EDSA bus segregation scheme rolled out

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Tuesday, December 18, started the implementation of new bus segregation scheme along the Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA).

Not only to decongest vehicular traffic, the new scheme would also reduce travel time and orderly loading and unloading of passengers along the 23.8-kilometer long EDSA, MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said.

The MMDA has also started its information campaign on the scheme to educate the public and prevent confusion among passengers and bus drivers. The department put stickers on the public utility buses (PUB) to delineate various routes.

The chart above classifies the buses as either "Bus A" or "Bus B."

Alabang-bound PUBs will have to use the Bus stop A, while Baclaran-bound PUBs will make use of the Bus stop B.

The MMDA has designated Bus stop C or "all stop buses," which will be used to accommodate short distance travels.

PBA Sunday: Rain or Shine completes All Filipino Final 4

Uncharacteristically in the half-time huddle, Coach Yeng Guiao has become soft-spoken, emphasizing to his boys: "shoot the ball when you are open, Ronnie (Matias), do not hesitate on an open shot" and it translated to a better second-half performance as Rain or Shine books the last semifinals seat beating Ginebra San Miguel (102-89) to battle against last season's Governors Cup rivals, San Mig Coffee Mixers in a Best of Seven series come Wednesday, December 19.

Lead by Paul Lee's 25 points and Gabe Norwood's bounce back 21 points, The Elasto Painters proved that they can finish of a game despite a comeback by the Gin Kings in the 3rd Quarter.

Ginebra was lead by LA Tenorio's 20 points and Billy Mamaril's 20, which was his career game before fouling out with time left in regulation.

The scores:

RAIN OR SHINE 102 - Lee 25, Norwood 21, Cruz 12, Belga 11, Matias 9, Tiu 7, Rodriguez 6, Quinahan 6, Chan 5, Tang 0, Arana 0.

Quick Reminder: Voting for Janine Tugonon

Filipinos had proven time in and time out how they can make wonders in helping PH bets with different pageants. If you could see how well she has prepared for the December pageant, you would know she's definitely worth to vote for.

Talk and Text and San Mig Coffee enjoy a twice to beat advantage over their opponents.

1st Game: Talk and Text (no. 1) vs. Air 21 Express (no. 8) - Talk and Text eliminates Air 21, 105-100
Capitalizing on the end game mistakes of Air 21, Talk and Text pull of a victory to eliminate their opponents 105-100. Ranidel De Ocampo's clutch three pointer helped the cause and with Jimmy Alapag and Jayson Castro shooting on their free throws, it was enough to keep the Express off for them to gain the first semifinal seat of the ongoing PBA Philippine Cup Playoffs.

It was a night that shown Mike Cortez of the Air 21 Express play his best game at 21 points.

The scores:
TALK N’ TEXT 105 – Reyes 16, Fonacier 16, Castro 15, De Ocampo 13, Alapag 13, Aban 10, Dillinger 8, Peek 8, Williams 4, Carey 2, Raymundo 0.
AIR21 100 – Canaleta 25, Cortez 21, Isip 18, Ritualo 14, Baclao 10, Custodio 9, Arboleda 3, Sena 0, Wilson 0, Reyes 0.

It took another 5 minutes to decide this game which showed Mark Andy Barroca rising to the test. With Jonas Villanueva out with fever, The Coffee Prince showed that he can be Tim Cone's best guard scoring 15 points on extended shooting. San Mig Coffee coach Tim Cone described him as "Wolverine" and truly, his game really proved that.

San Mig Coffee had to face the comebacking Marcio Lassiter who was able to the spread the floor with his 3-point shooting until the 5:51 mark where he had a bad fall. He had to be taken out of the venue in a stretcher.

Talk and Text awaits for the winner of the Alaska - Meralco series (Alaska leads 1-0) and San Mig Coffee waits for the winner of the Rain or Shine - Ginebra series (ROS leads 1-0). Game 2 will be Friday (December 14) on the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Pacquiao shrugs off Bieber memes

Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao shrugged off Internet memes following his loss to Mexican boxer Juan Manuel last Saturday, including the Instagram photos of pop superstar Justin Bieber.

Upon his arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Wednesday morning, Pacquiao said he would just pray for those who made fun of his loss.

"Sabi nga ng kautusan ng Panginoon, pray for those who persecuted you. So we will pray for them, we will pray for them, okay? Patawarin natin sila," he told ABS-CBN News.

Bieber, who has millions of followers on Instagram and Twitter, posted pictures of Pacquiao leaning with Michael Jackson on the dance floor and "Lion King" character waking up the knocked out boxer who fell in the canvass unconscious for about half a minute.

While these photos got the ire of many Filipinos (with the hashtag #RespectThePhilippinesBieber trended worldwide on Twitter), some of the "Beliebers" (Bieber's fans) said they found no harm in the photos and were actually funny.

The photos were accompanied by a series of captions about the possible fight between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr., whom Bieber is known to be close with.

"[Mayweather] has nothing to gain fighting Pacqiao. Floyd has never in his professional career lost a fight and Pacqiao lost his last two fights," he said.

"If Floyd wins it's not that big of a deal cuz it would be his third loss in a row, and if he loses he's gonna ruin his legacy either way there's no big win for Mayweather.. Mayweather is boxing," he added.

Bieber also expressed confidence on his "true" fans' loyalty:

"If they were Beliebers, I know they wouldn't leave my side over a boxing opinion I have," the 18-year-old singer said.

'Kabang' receives Red Cross recognition

Hero dog Kabang, who saved two girls from an apparent accident in Zamboanga City last year, has been given the "Animal Hero" award by international humanitarian organization Red Cross.

Kabang, who is currently in the United States for treatment, received the award during the 12th annual American Red Cross heroes recognition event at the University of California-Davis (UCD) last December 7.

Red Cross recognized Kabang's heroism when she saved two girls from being run over by a speeding motorcycle on December 2011. The act however literally ripped her face off, losing her upper snout and jaw.

Aside from the American Red Cross Award for Valor, Kabang also received recognitions from the U.S. Senate, Congress, and California Legislature.

Various groups, spearheaded by Care For Kabang, raised funds for the dog's surgery. As of September 14, 2012, it has reached its $20,000 funding goal, but said they still need more donations for Kabang's future health care needs.

Kabang has recently finished her chemotherapy sessions and heartworm treatment, and is now recuperating at the UCD before she can undergo surgery.

Verifying Paypal Account via BPI My E-Prepaid

The BPI My E-Prepaid Card, got it in Azure

It took me a long while to find the right card that can verify my Paypal account. Don't get me wrong, I had not yet intended to withdraw using my Paypal account but I needed one for those Pay-to-Click sites I had been using. I felt relieved when I first saw BPI My E-Prepaid.

To open a BPI My E-Prepaid account, you would need to go to a branch and wait for 5 days or it is best for you to do it online. (I did mine online and I got it in 2 weeks at my BPI branch because I stll had to finish some schoolwork ). You would have to present your purchase agreement and a fee worth 500 pesos to the section of your nominated branch that releases the card. Yes, the fee is 500 pesos for 2 years validity.

After acquiring the card, you can load it through the following (listed the convient ways)
1. If you have BPI Express Online account, you can register your BPI EPrepaid card to be able to receive Funds Transfer from your registered BPI, BPI Family Bank or BPI Direct Account.
2.You can load it through the Special Services section of your BPI Express Teller account, it works the same for BPI Express Cash.
3. You can also check out some branches availability of Cash Deposit Machines where you can insert notes (P 100, 500 and 1000 respectively)

For paypal verification, you should have loaded at least P 200 on your account. I had loaded P 300.00

After which, you can go to your Paypal Account:
1. Add your BPI My EPrepaid as a credit/debit card and the 3-digit CVC code at the back of your card to your PayPal account. Click on the Verify link to initiate the process.
2. After doing so, email myeprepaid@bpi.com.ph to get your Expuse Code. It took me the next day after emailing to get my expuse code. You would have to include your email and card number.
3. If you have registered your card with BPI Express Online, you can check it with the last 5 transactions on your portfolio.
4. Enter the EXPUSE code to be able to verify your account.

And that's about it, you may now enjoy your Paypal Account as it is verified.
