Fisher signs at OKC

After winning five NBA titles with the Los Angeles Lakers, Derek Fisher chose the West-leading Oklahoma City Thunder as the team where he wants to go for No. 6.

Fisher signed with the Thunder for the remainder of the season on Wednesday, not quite a week after he was traded to Houston by the Lakers and subsequently bought out of his contract instead of playing with the Rockets.

Petron Fan? Click and Answer.

As a writer, I am still a fan, dismayed of what has happened to Petron this conference. They are bowing out of the eliminations by losing to Barako 94-80 a while ago...

What should Petron do?
1) Change Ato Agustin (if so, think of a replacement)
2) Trade players
3) Get a prolific import come Governors Cup
4) Get healthy...
5) Others... (please cite here)

I'm still a Petron fan anyway, just disappointed, How about you?

2012 PBA All Star Weekend in Laoag

TOP rookie pick JV Casio and Petron star big man Arwind Santos show the way in the voting for starters in this year’s Rookies/Sophomores/Juniors-Veterans game of the PBA All-Star Weekend in Laoag City.
Casio, the hot-shooting playmaker of Powerade, had the most number of votes so far among the RSJ with 30,544 to pace four other guards, which also included no. 2 overall pick Paul Lee of Rain or Shine (29,763) and B-Meg’s Mark Barroca (20,067).

Santos on the other hand, received 28,821 votes from the fans to pace the Veterans big men, way ahead of B-Meg’s Marc Pingris (22,771) and Kerby Raymundo of Ginebra (17,621).

Fans still have one week to vote to determine the three frontliners and two guards that will start for both teams in the May 10-13 mid-season classic.

Last day of voting is on March 28.

Powerade coach Bo Perasol will call the shots for RSJ, while Chot Reyes handles the Veterans. The two coaches earned the right to handle the two squads for steering the Tigers and Tropang Texters to the Finals of the Philippine Cup.
Petron’s Chris Lutz, the no. 3 pick behind Casio and Lee, leads the RSJ center/forwards in voting with 29,018, followed by Marcio Lassiter of Powerade (27,347), Japeth Aguilar of Talk `N Text (23,418), and Ginebra’s Dylan Ababou (23,021).

All four incidentally, are former teammates with the Smart Gilas-Pilipinas team.

Meanwhile, consistent fan favorite James Yap of B-Meg and Mark Caguioa of Ginebra are on top among veteran guards. Yap accumulated 23,430 votes, while Caguioa is next with 18, 635. Running third behind the team is Powerade gunner Gary David (14,293).

Others getting the fans nod are Alaska forward Marnel Baracael (14,752) and guards Rob Labagala (9,479) and John Wilson (9,002).

For the Veterans, in contention for a starting job are forwards JC Intal of Ginebra (17, 614) and Petron’s Dondon Hontiveros (15,753), along with playmakers Jayjay Helterbrand of Ginebra (13,287), and reigning league MVP Jimmy Alapag of Talk `N Text (12,728).

Coaches of the league's eight other teams will fill the seven vacant spots of the two teams while Reyes and Perasol are confined to picking the seven other players for their respective rosters.

Latest PBA trade: Lanete to Petron, Agustin to Barako Bull

The names that were involved in today's trade may not be as big as Marcio Lassiter but it proved to be a shocker to PBA fans, especially for the Petron Blaze Boosters and the Barako Bull Energy camp. It involved an exchange of players with Chico Lanete going to the Petron camp while Marc Agustin going to Barako Bull Energy

First let me give you a rundown of what Petron and Barako would get:

PETRON BLAZE: Chico Lanete

Chico Lanete is a point guard from Ormoc City, Philippines. He was an undrafted signee of then the Purefoods Tender Juicy Giants in 2007 and throughout his career has jumped teams: Giants, Ginebra Kings, Whoopers, Powerade Tigers, Meralco Bolts and Barako Bull Energy. He gives offense and defense for each team that he plays to.

Chico reunites with his Harbour Centre teammates, Joseph Yeo and Rob Reyes.

BARAKO BULL: Marc Agustin

Marc Agustin plays small-forward/power forward from San Fernando, Pampanga, He probably had the greatest pressure having to play for his father, Petron Blaze Boosters Coach Ato Agustin and get compared to a dad who was a 1992 PBA MVP. Considered by majority of fans as "lucky" for having playing time in an all-star calibre team like the Blaze Boosters, Marc would now have the chance to prove that he is Marc Agustin and he can make a name for himself as a defensive and maybe, an offensive guy.

WINNER or LOSER?
I would like to say no one lost in this trade. Marc's game can progress with Barako, He's young and definitely can be trade by Coach Junel Baculi. Chico's presence for the Blaze Boosters is not to add for another "security agency" - factory of the guards as they say, Chico has a good offense-defense game which could help the likes of Alex Cabagnot and Dennis Miranda.

FANS REACT:
Different reactions came upon the approval of this trade: Many PBB fans wished Marc goodluck through Twitter, while the FB fanpage of Barako Bull Energy were asking their fans if they got what Chico was worth, even ended up calling SMC as "BUWAYA".

I just hope for both this players to improve with their new teams. Basketball is BUSINESS and Basketball is not PERMANENT, even if the Head Coach is your father. Looking forward to see the improvement of Lanete's and Agustin's game.

Binay: Fair Corona trial for the benefit of PH

MANILA, Philippines – A fair and impartial trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona will be a “great boon” to the country, according to Vice President Jejomar Binay.

"A fair and impartial trial -- and only a fair and impartial trial -- of Chief Justice Corona, unclouded by suspicions or actual accusations of misconduct and improper dealing on the part of any participant in the proceedings, or on the part of those whose legitimate right and duty are simply to observe the proceedings without seeking to intervene in the outcome, would be a great boon to the nation," Binay said on Friday during the 34th Anniversary Celebration of the Philippine Trial Lawyers Association,
Inc. (PTLA) at the Manila Hotel.

Binay, speaking in front of trial lawyers, said that more are expected from them than being mere spectators of the impeachment proceedings.

"We are to stand as neutral observers in every proceeding in which we are not participants, but we should be prepared to intervene whenever the balance of justice and fairness shifts in favor of power, and the rule of law and due process are threatened," he said.

The vice president also lauded PTLA’s stand on the inviolability of the Constitution in the ongoing trial, especially in relation to the protected rights under the Bill of Rights, as well as the separation of powers between the different co-equal branches of government.

Binay warned that "we cannot depart from due process and the rule of law without renouncing our Constitution."

He added that the impeachment process should not be used to bend the law "or asserting the false supremacy of one branch of government over another, or putting one branch in conflict with another."
