PBA Friday: Alex Cabagnot steers PBB to the 4th Semifinals Slot

Call him Mr. Clutch - playing his A-Game at the right time...

Alex Cabagnot's game winner on the 2nd game of PBA Friday broke the hearts of the Ube Republic (Air 21 Express), All game long, the game was close, both teams had the chance to lead going to the dying seconds of the ball game.

He scored a floater on the ninth-tenths of a second remaining on the shot clock, leaving Air 21 deciding for themselves their next move since they burned their time-outs. Though fans of PBB may see this win as a very ugly one, they would definitely take it going to the 2nd round.

The Defending Governor's Cup Champions, though record standing at 5-4 with a few more games remaining is sure of the semifinals where 6 teams would compete in a single round robin where the Top 2 would contend for the finals. PBB will not back down, definitely not Alex Cabagnot.

The scores:
Petron (98) – Washington 23, Lutz 18, Santos 16, Cabagnot 13, Basden 7, Lanete 7, Baclao 6, Yeo 4, Miranda 2, Pena 2, Hontiveros 0.

Air 21 (97) – Graham 40, Espiritu 16, Faundo 10, Ritualo 10, Sison 6, Escobal 5, Sena 2, Isip 2, Hubalde 2, Omolon 2, Arboleda 2, Menor 0.
Quarters: 20-22, 52-50, 79-75, 98-97

Tugonon, 22 was the 2011 Bb. Nicole Schmitz
Bb. Pilipinas International

Nicole Schmitz is probably one of pageant netizens favorite to win Miss International 2012, but this girl would not let pressures come across her to win the Philippines its 5th Miss International crown.

Runners - up: Elaine Kay Moll (a successful crossover candidate who was in the 1st edition of Miss World Philippines (won by Gwendoline Ruais)) and Annalie Forbes, both entertaining that they would like to join again, but not next year.

With a TRO, Tulfo show can proceed - CA

The Court of Appeals (CA) has allowed TV5 to proceed airing the Tulfo brothers' show, T3.
The Pangilinan-led broadcasting firm secured a temporary restraining order (TRO) today. This will be effective for 60 days. The sixth division of the appellate court ordered the petitioners to post a P100,000 bond.
Last May 16, the CA turned down the plea of TV5 for a halt order on the initial 20-day suspension order of the Movie Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) on "T3."
On May 30, MTRCB finally ordered the suspension of the "current affairs" show for three months.
The suspension was announced by the board through spokesperson Atty. Eugenio Villareal after a "thorough deliberation" by its adjudication board.
The case stemmed from the supposed on-air threats issued by program hosts Ben, Raffy and Erwin Tulfo against celebrity couple Raymart Santiago and Claudine Barretto following a brawl between the couple's group and the Tulfos' eldest brother, Mon.

Luigi Trillo's tweet about Gilas cadets ban from draft: Are you in favor or not?

The tweet above of Alaska Interim Coach Luigi Trillo made waves on different Sports websites. Trillo, on his first conference as Alaska's Coach cited that Gilas' cadet pool that bars its players from joining the PBA draft is selfish and unfair as the draft is the only way for weaker teams to strengthen their line up for the next season.

Do you agree on what Coach Trillo say?

Update: Jojo Duncil suspended for 1 game

Petron's newest acquisition, Jojo Duncil was slapped with a Flagrant Foul Penalty Two last night on his team's victory over the B-Meg Llamados, what seemed to be sad about it for PBB fans is Jojo was not even in court, he laid out his foot over the streaky Llamados point guard Josh Urbiztondo.

UPDATE: PBA Commissioner Chito Salud upholds the decision of the referees and suspends Jojo Duncil for the Dumaguete game of Petron against Rain or Shine, No fines were imposed.

New Samsung CEO would focus on Software

SEOUL - The new chief executive of South Korean giant Samsung Electronics stressed Monday the need for more investment on software to maintain the company's lead in the fast-changing technology industry.

Kwon Oh-Hyun said Samsung, which beat arch-rival Apple in the first quarter to become the world's top smartphone maker by sales, would work harder to build "unique platforms and ecosystems" to secure an "absolute lead" in the market.

"A particular focus must be given to serving new customer experience and value by strengthening soft capabilities in software, user experience, design and solutions," he said in an inaugural speech.
Kwon took the helm at the world's largest technology firm earlier this month after his predecessor Choi Gee-Sung was appointed to head the strategy office for the Samsung group, of which the electronics firm is the flagship.

Samsung Electronics -- also the world's biggest producer of flat-screen TVs and memory chips -- has tried to strengthen its mobile software business which is relatively weaker than its mighty device-making operations.

Its popular smartphones and tablet PCs -- the Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab series -- run on Google's Android operating system.

The Bada software developed by Samsung has not garnered much popularity among consumers and device makers so far, prompting the firm to set out to hire more workers in software development.

"Our company is at an inflection point in our bid to be a genuine global number one...complacency will put us on the same path as the countless other companies that have faded into the mist," said Kwon.

B-Meg gains solo lead

Even if B-Meg import Marqus Blakely sat on the bench on the final 19 minutes of the game yesterday, it was no problem for the B-Meg Llamados.

They gave their opponents Alaska Aces the lowest output in 3 1/2 years in a game by any team in the PBA and after L.A. Tenorio, Jason Forte and Sonny Thoss who all put up 10 points, nobody were in double figures.

B-Meg goes up the ladder with 5-1.

The scores:

B-MEG 77 - Blakely 13, Intal 13, Simon 13, Urbiztondo 8, Yap 8, Pingris 7, De Ocampo 6, Reavis 5,
Barroca 4, Acuna 0, Gaco 0, Burstcher 0, Bono 0, Villanueva 0.

ALASKA 61 - Forte 24, Tenorio 17, Thoss 10, Baguio 5, Baracael 2, Cablay 2, Espinas 1, Jazul 0,

Amalia Fuentes sues Rama, Gonzalez on 12 counts of libel

Actress Amalia Fuentes sues Talent Manager Annabelle Rama and TV host and Star Columnist Bianca Gonzalez with 12 counts of libel for Gonzalez's article which featured Annabelle Rama last February 12.

Fuentes filed 11 counts of libel to Rama and one to Gonzalez, stemming to the fact that it came out of Gonzalez's column without Bianca hearing Fuentes side.

It has been recalled that the feud of Amalia and Annabelle had been going on for a long time.

Miss World Philippines 2012 Candidates Press Presentation

Court orders Annabelle Rama's arrest

A local court judge on Monday ordered the arrest of talent manager Annabelle Rama in connection with the libel case lodged against her by actress Nadia Montenegro.

Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 92 Judge Eleuterio Bathan issued the warrant of arrest for Rama for her failure to attend the court hearings involving the 14 counts of libel that Montenegro filed.

Bathan recommended a bail of P10,000 for each count of libel, or a total of P140,000.
Montenegro had charged Rama with libel and unjust vexation over the latter's alleged defamatory statements about her through microblogging site Twitter.

Miss World Philippines Top Picks

Cory Quirino's CQGQ and the Miss World Philippines 2011 court recently had the final screening held to be able to trim down and capture the final list of contestants for Miss World Philippines 2012. Here are what I think to be the top guns of this competition:

APRIL LOVE JORDAN

RIZZINI ALEXIS GOMEZ

MARY ANN ROSS MISA

QUEENERICH REHMAN

BRENNA CASSANDRA GAMBOA

Incidentally, they are also my Top 5 picks for the crown. I know there are more contestants to watch out for. Watch out for MWP 2012 at TV5 and see Gwendoline Ruais (Miss World Philippines 2011 and Miss World 1st Princess) crown her successor to represent us in Ordos.

Midas not resigning

Former Supreme Court spokesman Jose Midas Marquez said he will not resign as Court Administrator following the ouster of Chief Justice Renato Corona.

In an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN News, Marquez said he sees no reason to quit.

Since Chief Justice Reynato Puno's term, Marquez served as SC's spokesman. When Corona was convicted via 20-3 votes from the impeachment trial senator-judges, he ended his stint as the High Court's spokesman. However, he still served as the Court Administrator.

Marquez stood by his position amidst calls for resignations from different sectors and anti-Coronas. He noted that his position as Court Administrator is not co-terminus with that of the chief justice, as he was appointed by the SC en banc even before Corona was appointed chief magistrate.

Although disheartened by the verdict of his former boss, Marquez said he is ready to work with the acting CJ Antionio Carpio.

"I have always been very professional with my work. Kung halimbawang hindi magiging maganda yung siguro yung relationship at maaapektuhan yung serbisyo, then that may be a time to think things over," he said.

Powerade's Sneed brings them to victory

It took a big game from Omar Sneed and the spark from recent acquisition Rey Guevarra for the Powerade Tigers to beat Talk and Text Tropang Texters in the 1st game of the Sunday Showdown (June 3).

Sneed was able to turn around the Talk and Text first half damage with 32 points and Guevarra was able to chip in 8 of his 11 in the final quarter for the Tigers to get back in the standings at 2-2.

Paul Harris lead the Texters with his 22 points and Alapag with 17, the team falls behind 1-3 which is critical in the short tournament. (Governors Cup would only play single round = 9 games only and bottom 4 teams to be eliminated and 6 would go to the Semifinals).

The scores:
Powerade (110) – Sneed 32, David 28, Guevarra 11, Al-Hussaini 10, Casio 8, Lingganay 7, Salvador 6, Anthony 4, Antonio 2, Vanladingham 2, Tugade 0.
Talk ‘N Text (105) – Harris 22, Alapag 17, Peek 16, De Ocampo 15, Williams 13, Fonacier 11, Gamalinda 5, Aban 2, Aguilar 2, Dillinger 2, Alvarez 0, Raymundo 0.
Quarterscores: 20-25, 44-51, 78-68, 110-105.

Celtics go to their unsung heroes to cut deficit 2-1

"My goal is to win", a phrase said by Boston Celtics Guard Rajon Rondo during the post-game interview with Marquis Daniels after their 101-91 victory to cut Miami's series lead 2-1.

Rondo, who played for the entire game last Game 2 in Miami and scored 44 points didn't have to do it again, He got help from Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and the unsung hero of the game, Marquis Daniels.

Marquis, on his 3rd Year with the Celtics got his playing time after the shoulder injury of Avery Bradley and made sure his minutes was worth it. Daniels, the 9th Year Player scored 7 pts and provided support for the group that people doubted could win against a powerhouse Miami.

Now the biggest question is, Can the Celtics make this a series?

Rey Francis Guevarra, Twitter and the Future of the Powerade Tigers

When you talk about Powerade, the first thing that would come to your mind is Gary "El Granada" David or Omar Sneed. But for a moment today, it was Rey Guevarra who made a trend in Twitter and currently ruled the talk over social networking sites.

Rey Guevarra backed when he was donning the jersey of Petron Blaze with the author

Rey Guevarra, a former Letran standout and 2010 3rd Pick of the Air 21 Express (behind former team mate Noy Baclao and 2010 Rookie of the Year Rabeh Al Hussaini), managed to put up a career high 15 points helping Powerade to a victory against the Alaska Aces Friday.

Guevarra is now on his third team in his 2 year PBA career: He played for Air 21 Express and for the Petron Blaze Boosters until last conference. He was dealt to the Tigers in a 5 man trade along with Rabeh Al Hussaini and Lordy Tugade for then Powerade's Super Rookie Marcio Lassiter and Celino Cruz (now with Barako).
