The Winners and the Losers of the PBA Draft 2012

In life, there are always winners and losers, that includes even playing for the PBA, here is the list of the Winners and the Losers of the PBA Draft.

Winner: The Top 3 picks (Alex Mallari (PBB), Junemar Fajardo (PBB) and Calvin Abueva (ALA)

Junemar has been assured of getting the maximum pay of a rookie which amounts to P 8.5 million in 3 years and is assured to be used in the basketball game because of his towering height and to how he can create mismatches for the opponents. Calvin Abueva would provide enough muscle inside and can create his own shots which he proved as he is the reigning 2011 NCAA MVP for San Sebastian Stags while Alex Mallari, the surprise 3rd pick, knows the game he has to show to prove the world that he deserves to be called #3 pick.

Winner: Petron Blaze Boosters

The moment that we knew that Petron gets the #1 pick and Fajardo entered the draft, they are already a winner, hopefully, this will help solve the problems they have last season. Coach Olsen Racela would definitely have a lot to handle when he comes back from the Energen U-18 in Mongolia.

Winner: Rain or Shine Elasto Painters drafting Chris Tiu
Who would have thought that Chris Tiu would be drafted 7th by the E-Painters? See the big grin on Coach Yeng Guiao's face just like he has won the jackpot? Chris may be old for a rookie at 27, but his Gilas experience and other international stints he has played for will help the cause of the recent champions, Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in their quest for back-to-back titles especially that Paul Lee may not see action yet during the first conference.

Loser: The One Who Made the Rain or Shine Paintbrush
This is just to add humor to this content but I think the paintbrush is too oversized, especially when Chris held it.

Winner: Chris Tiu on not having to worry about Beau Belga during games
I don't know if Chris should consider himself lucky that he does not have to worry about Beau Belga during games but then again, it is a win-win situation that he teams up with the Extra-Rice Incorporated during the 38th season.

Loser: Ginebra Fans (and Fangirls)
When Commissioner Chito Salud announced that the 6th pick is Chris... everybody was anticipating for it to be Chris Tiu but I sense disappointment when it  eventually became Chris Ellis.

Winner: A Quick Change of Jackets for Aldrech Ramos
When Aldrech was picked #5 by Barako Bull Energy, he was surprised to be picked highly in the draft, but moments later, he had to change jackets for he was traded, the only rookie trade that happened that day to join the B-Meg Derby Ace Llamados.

Winner: Meralco Bolts
Getting Cliff Hodge at  4 and contributors such as Kelly Nabong and Janus Lozada may solve the puzzle of Coach Ryan Gregorio on why they have not entered the finals during their first 2 seasons as a franchise.

Winner: Chris Ellis and Keith Jensen
The 6th and 8th pick of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel would definitely have the chance to grow with the team which is laden with talent and to be developed to be the next superstar. They would also have a large fan-base for starters.

Wait and See: Global Port Batang Pier
After being accepted with open arms, the draft saw Global Port Batang Pier being involved early, dealing Sean Anthony to get picks in the draft which I hope would be useful for the Mikee Romero franchise.

Loser: The Draft Picks of the Last 3 Rounds
With the enormous amount of talent there was in the recently concluded draft, let us admit it that not everybody can play. I can only assume that those who were drafted in the first two rounds will be offered live contracts, but this is not the end for those draftees who would not be able to make it, they just have to keep working hard for PBA teams to notice them. We have seen several unsigned rookies helping PBA teams bigtime.

Ronald Pascual and JR Cawaling pull out PBA Draft papers

San Sebastian stalwart Ronald Pascual (photo) and former FEU star JR Cawaling withdraws PBA Draft papers

There is just too much talent up for grabs on Sunday, August 19 at Robinsons Midtown Manila that even potential draft picks Ronald Pascual and JR Cawaling decided to withdrew their papers, they are just two of the 13 individuals who had withdrawn from the draft (From 71 to 58)

Pascual, one of the three famed San Sebastian Pinatubo trio was expected to be a first-rounder but chose to go for the draft next year.

Petron Blaze Boosters is expected to tap University of Cebu standout Junemar Fajardo as top pick while there are rumors that the 2nd pick would probably be last year's NCAA MVP Calvin Abueva.

News Bits Online Projected Top 5 Draft Picks PBA 2012 Rookie Draft

#1 DRAFT PICK: JUNMAR FAJARDO (Petron Blaze Boosters)
SMC groomed this University of Cebu standout for Petron and passing at him maybe would be the worst mistake they would ever do.

#2 - CHRIS TIU (Alaska Aces)
It is not yet too late for this former Ateneo/Gilas standout to turn pro and I believe Alaska knows that after Junmar, to whom Coach Luigi Trillo has expressed getting, Chris is the next one in the pool.

#3 - CALVIN ABUEVA (Petron Blaze)
This NCAA MVP has forego his last playing year for San Sebastian to turn pro and what better place for him to be drafted than Petron Blaze to where Coach Ato Agustin is (I assume Ato is still the coach of PBB until further announcements). He may be also the reason of the recent rumors that one of the two franchise players of PBB might be dealt in a blockbuster trade to Ginebra (Jay Wash or Arwind Santos).

#4 -  ALDRECH RAMOS (Meralco Bolts)
My 4th and 5th picks are mere guesses, in the talent laden rookie draft of 71 applicants, I chose Aldrech Ramos as Meralco's First Round pick, he can match up with the bigs of the PBA collaring those rebounds and shooting very well from the perimeter.

#5 - CLIFF HODGE (Barako Bull Energy)
This NLEX Road Warriors/Sinag Pilipinas standout is catching the eye of PBA teams and of course is not good to pass. I predict him to be drafted by Barako as they need a potent scorer that could work of the dribble.

Runners-up: (May enter the First 5 picks)
- Ellis, Manuel, Pascual
