The 2013 PBA Draft will happen November 3, 2013 at Robinsons Place, Manila, The 79 Draft hopefuls are all eager to find out if teams will place interest in them after the Rookie Camp and their respective collegiate showings.

Greg Slaughter of the Ateneo De Manila University is expected to be the #1 pick.

Tenorio & Dozier are Commissioner's Cup Awardees

What can be more fitting for the PBA Commissioner's Cup Awardees than to have the Best Local Players and Best Imports competing for the Best Player of the Conference and the Bobby Parks Best Import Award.

LA Tenorio of the Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings finished with the highest statistical point total of 480 points, Calvin Abueva finished with an SP average of 28.5 points riding on the 150 points game winning bonus from his team who finished on top of the standings during the eliminations.

The rest of the candidates for the Best Player of the Conference awards are: GlobalPort’s Gary David came in third with 26.0 an outing, another Alaska player Jayvee Casio (25.4) and Philippine Cup BPC winner Jayson Castro of the Talk and Text Tropang Texters (25.2).

The Bobby Parks Best Import Award could only be won by Robert Dozier of the Alaska Aces and Vernon Macklin of Ginebra. Eric Dawson of the Meralco Bolts finished on top of the Best Import SPs at 53.9

If Tenorio is to win the BPC award, he will add it to his other titles: 2010 Most Improved Player award, 2010 Mythical First Team citation, 2010 Fiesta Conference Finals co-MVP honors and the 2010 Williams Jones Cup MVP trophy.

Abueva meanwhile will follow Eric Menk and Danny Seigle to be the rookie to win BPC honors.

Eric won the award in the Philippine Cup while Danny won the award in the Governors Cup, Danny went on to win the Rookie of the Year award at the end of the season.

The Tenorio-Abueva & Dozier-Macklin award showdown is just a part of tomorrow's Game 3 event: Will Alaska go for the sweep or will the never-say-die attitude of Ginebra prevail to fight another game.

 

UPDATE: LA Tenorio was awarded as the Best Player of the Conference and Robert Dozier was the Best Import.

Where did Chris Alexander go?

After being released by Ginebra, Chris Alexander would be heading to South Korea where he is set to replace Reggie Okosa as the import of the KT Sonic Boom, according to sports site Jumpball Korea.

Alexander's Philippine agent, Sheryl Reyes told news reporters that Alexander declined the offer to play for SMB-ABL, Meralco's former import, Jarrid Famous, also a PBA import cut was signed by SMC's Asean Basketball League team.

Vroman joins practice of Ginebra, Alexander to San Miguel Beermen?

Ginebra fans reacted today when news surfaced that the team's import, Chris Alexander would be replaced.
Jackson Vroman, a Lebanese basketball player had flown in today to the country to join Ginebra as their new import. He played for the NBA for Phoenix Suns and the New Orleans (Oklahoma City) Hornets.

He joins Allan Caidic, Juno Sauler and Art Dela Cruz who work as assistant coaches in the team that gives him a chance to learn more of the game.

Powerade franchise back with San Miguel [as reported in Inquirer]

The San Miguel group may have just added a fourth team in the PBA with its recent reacquisition of the Coca-Cola bottling company.

This was learned by the Inquirer from a very unimpeachable company source after SMC president Ramon S. Ang reportedly met and closed a deal with Coca-Cola Philippines’ CEO Bill Schultz recently.

The San Miguel group actually used to own Coca-Cola before selling it in 2004.

Part of that deal was for SMC to have a right-of-first-refusal should the present Coca-Cola management decide to sell the franchise, which SMC is now exercising.

At the same time, the local executives of Coca-Cola, which played as Powerade and finished a surprising second to Talk ’N Text in the Philippine Cup last Sunday, are desperately trying to keep the Tigers even after the reported meeting between Ang and the Schultz.

Details of the purchase are being kept under wraps though the Inquirer also learned that SMC has already made a payment to Schultz in what could be the highest amount ever paid for a PBA franchise.

The Barako Bull squad was the last franchise that was put up for sale, with Bert Lina’s Air21 bagging the rights reportedly for close to P50 million last year with George Chua still retaining part ownership.

San Miguel’s purchase of the Coca-Cola franchise is reportedly easily double that amount, more so after the Tigers went deep into the playoffs and unveiled several superstars in the making in their lineup.

Selling the franchise has been in the minds of the foreign management of Coca-Cola for the past couple of years.

The source said the Tigers will reportedly remain intact until the end of the current season.

With Gary David and rookies Marcio Lassiter and JV Casio blooming into superstars, Coca-Cola/Powerade can rake in some more money by trading/selling them before the SMC takeover granted that it wasn’t included in the sale.

San Miguel already has Petron Blaze, B-Meg and Barangay Ginebra in the PBA, and should this deal be consummated, there will be only a total of four companies/personalities owning the 10 teams in the league.

Manny V. Pangilinan owns the Tropang Texters and Meralco, while Lina runs Air21 and Barako Bull.

Only billionaire Wilfred Steven Uytengsu of Alaska and the Raymund Yu-Terry Que tandem of Rain or Shine remain as the only owners with just one team in the PBA.

Chris Alexander's Status Message goes viral

The former Ginebra Kings import, Chris Alexander (Mr. Toothpick) awaken the emotions of BGK fans who are awaiting for the next conference to see their favorite team play. In this status, Chris Alexander seemed to be mindful about the selection of the Ginebra import and he feels he is not Ginebra's top choice for the Commissioner's Cup by February.

Jayjay Helterbrand will continue to play for Ginebra

Jayjay Helterbrand would continue to play for Ginebra. 


This was confirmed by the former PBA MVP in an interview with AKTV. 


After being swept by the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters last Wednesday, talks speculated about it being Jayjay's last hurrah since he only signed a one-conference contract with Ginebra and he left the second game of Ginebra-ROS earlier before the final buzzer. 


The 2009 PBA MVP was riddled with injuries the past year, but he ought that he feels much better now. 


The Ginebra guard expects a renewal of his contract after the holidays - perhaps on January 11 during their first practice session.

3rd Member of the Semifinals named: Rain or Shine beats Ginebra

Rain or Shine Elasto Painters gives their Head Coach Yeng Guiao a Christmas gift by winning the game today (December 21) by beating Ginebra Gin Kings, 106-91 to arrange a Semifinals meet with the Powerade Tigers. 

Jeff Chan led the Elasto Painters with 22 points, while Ginebra Kings was lead by Mike Cortez with 17.

With Ginebra's early elimination, the biggest question is will Jayjay Helterbrand retire? It was recalled that "The Fast" only signed 1 conference contract with the Gin Kings and as of this writing, We don't know if he's still going to come back next conference.

Jared Dillinger makes the TNT-Ginebra match interesting

The last elimination round game featuring the defending champions Talk and Text Tropang Texters and Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings would not start in less than 6 hours but Jared Dillinger, the swingman of Talk and Text Tropang Texters had made this interesting with his recent tweet about Mark Caguioa's hairdo:

Of course, Barangay Ginebra fans quickly reacted to what Dillinger tweeted. Mark has actually sported a lot of hair styles ever since he went pro back in 2001 (mohawk and all others that Mark tried) and it is only Jared Dillinger who had the guts to tell this. I don't even know if Jared would play today since he's been out with an injury. Mark has shown why he has been a candidate for Most Valuable Player a couple of times. If Mark is finding motivation in today's game, Jared should be blamed for giving him one. 

** Today's game would not affect anymore who gets to have the twice-to-beat advantage as Tropang Texters and the Llamados had already secured it. Only playoff pairings would be decided today. Who am I going to cheer for? Just the Elasto Painters (My second favorite team) I would just be an interested spectator with the TNT - Ginebra match.
