Why Jeron Teng Did Not Venture to Acting

Dela Salle University Basketball Star Jeron Teng shared his reasons why he has turned down acting offers and the possibility of entering showbusiness.

In an interview with "Tapatan ni Tunying" aired last Thursday, Teng noted that he has to prioritize his studies. Jeron is a double degree major in Business Management and Behavioral Sciences in DLSU.

"May mga offers na mag-try ako mag-acting pero siyempre, alam ko yung priorities ko. Alam kong may commitment ako sa school." he said.

The latter also noted that his focus is to eventually land a career in the PBA, just like his dad Alvin and his brother Jeric who now plays for the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.

In the interview, he was also asked about Jane Oineza. Jeron in reply answered they are friends but are in constant communication with others.

Paul George suffers gruesome leg injury

Indiana Pacers' Paul George suffered a serious leg injury during the U.S. national team's intrasquad scrimmage at UNLV's Thomas & Mack Center Friday night.

The guard/forward landed and then buckled at the base of the basket stanchion after he pursued James Harden in transition defense, just 27 seconds into the fourth quarter.

While a lot did not get a clear look at the injury, fans chanted his name in the hopes of seeing him stand up.

George was taken off the court in a stretcher to a standing ovation. Coach Mike Krzyzewski then led the players to mid-court and informed the crowd they were calling off the remainder of the scrimmage.

A report from ESPN said George was taken to the Hospital for Special Surgery in Las Vegas, Nevada.

With the injury, George is most likely to miss the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup and NBA's regular season as well.

George tweeted the following after the gruesome injury:

George averaged 21.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists last season for Indiana.

PBA: Pacquiao cannot suit up for KIA without joining the PBA Draft

Whether or not he becomes a part of the coaching staff of KIA, Manny Pacquiao cannot play for the team unless he joins the PBA Draft.

PBA Media Bureau Chief Willie Marcial said on the league's official website that Pacquiao can only play for KIA directly if the PBA Board of Governors allows the 3 new teams, KIA, NLEX and Blackwater for concessions, which they ruled otherwise when they approved the entry of the teams next season.

If KIA wants Pacquiao to suit up for them, they can use their pick from the  11th to 16th draft picks in the upcoming draft to get him as a player.

Evan Brock close to landing a deal with SMB, but who among the Williamses should go?

After being replaced by DJ Mbenga to save the playoff chances of Barako Bull Energy Cola, sports websites report that Evan Brock is close to signing a deal with San Miguel Beermen of the Asean Basketball League.

The Beermen, currently at 10-3 has until today to finalize their lineup for ABL, their current lineup banners already high-quality imports in Brian Williams and former Globalport reinforcement Justin Williams. 

If the deal pushes through, it would not be the first time that Brock would set foot to the Asean Basketball League. He has suited up for the Indonesia Warriors last year that beaten San Miguel Beermen in a three game title series. 

But if San Miguel would choose Brock, whom will they let go of the Williamses? After all, the team rides on a 7 game winning streak.

UPDATE: San Miguel Beermen chose to stick with the Williamses.

Bobby Parks Sr. succumbs after a battle with cancer

 

 

7-time Best Import Awardee Bobby Parks Sr. passed away today at around 4:55 pm. He was 51.

 

The news was confirmed by National University Athletic Director, Junel Baculi in his interview.

 

He began his playing career with the PBA with the San Miguel Beermen and later on with the Shell team to which he won 7 Best Import titles until his retirement from the game in 1998. He was inducted to the Hall of Fame by the PBA in 2009.

 

He was diagnosed with laryngeal cancer in 2008, during that period he was able to do jobs with the sport that he loved, being the assistant athletic director of National University in 2010, a part of the coaching staff of the Petron Blaze Boosters and just last year, he was named as the Head Coach of San Miguel Beermen which he lead to a runner-up finish in the Asean Basketball League.

 

With the relapse of his illness, he was forced to step down as head coach. This year, the Beermen is handled by Leo Austria.

 

He is survived by his son, Bobby Ray Parks Jr, a star of National University Bulldogs.

The Import Ordeal: Jamelle Cornley arrested

Former Rain or Shine import Jamelle Cornley was arrested Wednesday morning after going beserk at Sir Williams Hotel in Quezon City where he claims that he has lost $1,400 to a bunch of hookers.

Station Chief Marcelino Pedrozo enumerated the five charges that are being readied against the former Governors Cup Best Import: Alarm and scandal (for running amok in the hotel), malicious mischief (for damage to properties of Sir William’s hotel), disrespect of police authorities, resisting arrest and direct assault. Pedrozo also said that if something happens to the police that Cornley punched, he would have another charge for it as well.

The police was later on identified to be P01 Anselmo Lazatin, who was rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center.

Spin.ph posted a video of Jamelle Cornley explaining that he was the victim in here, that he wanted to get his money back and no one tried to help him.

Cornley helped Rain or Shine Elasto Painters win its first franchise title last year. He stayed in the Philippines for rehab and has helped current ROS import Bruno Sundov as a practice player for the team.

The NBA is coming to town!

Earlier speculated, Commissioner David Stern confirmed on Tuesday via video message two powerhouse teams Houston Rockets and Indiana Pacers will play a pre-season game at the SM Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena.

Recent news reports and tweets from MOA Arena's official Twitter account saw a poster with the NBA's logo and the tagline "Big Things Are Coming" that shows the possibility of NBA regular season games to happen in the country.

With Miami Heat's 30-14 record, Coach Erik Spoelstra will officially call the shots for the Eastern Conference in the 62nd NBA All Star game to be held on February 17 in Houston, Texas.

Coach Spoelstra will oppose San Antonio Spurs Coach Gregg Popovich who will coach the Western Conference whose team has the best record in the NBA at 38-11.

NCAA Coaching Changes: Fernandez to San Beda, Co to Mapua

Just as 2013 is ushered, changes were started to take effect in the coaches of the NCAA teams as officially for San Beda Red Lions, another Meralco Bolts mentor Boyet Fernandez is to take over the helm over former coach Ronnie Magsanoc who tendered his resignation after he catapulted the team to a championship on the Season 88.

Meanwhile, Atoy Co is one of the top candidates of Mapua Cardinals to fill in for the vacant coaching job left by Chito Victolero. The appointment if formalized would be set on January 11.

Chua now Ginebra's Coach, Siot is lead assistant

 

Just as we usher 2013, Ginebra announced one of the biggest changes for their lineup as Alfrancis Chua moves up as Ginebra's Coach replacing Siot Tanquincen with the hopes to bring Ginebra back to where it was expected to be.

 

According to Ginebra governor and PBA chairman Robert Non, Siot was informed of the management decision Tuesday. He would be asked to slide down to assistant coach with the same salary as he is receiving right now and plans would be made to where the former UST role player should be.

 

Tanquincen won three championships with Ginebra, but in the last 4 conferences, the talent-laden team has failed to make the finals, even with the MVP performance of Mark Caguioa.

 

Chua on the other hand might not have won the championship but he is marked to be a "player's coach", hoping to get Ginebra San Miguel back on track.

Lebron James wins Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year Award

Lebron James of the Miami Heat is Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year for 2012

Sports Illustrated announced Monday that Lebron James of the Miami Heat is their magazine's Sportsman of the Year 2012.

James, 27, has been outstanding this year, winning his first NBA championship, his third MVP award named MVP of the NBA finals and a won gold medal with the United States at the London Olympics.

He was just the 6th basketballer who won the award, which started in 1954. The most recent winner is to whom Lebron was familiar, Dwayne Wade, his team mate in 2006.

James went far from how critics reacted when he moved to Miami after his contract expired with Cleveland and his performance during the 2011 Finals won by Dallas Mavericks.

Notable winners of this award are: swimmer Michael Phelps (2008), cyclist Lance Armstrong (2002) and golfer Tiger Woods (2000). The first award was held by Roger Bannister in 1954.

Another chapter of Petronovela: NO MORE TRADE BANNER

Jay Washington will still be wearing this jersey, at least for now.

For those who have been following different social media sites, news sites such as Interaktv and different forums, you may have encountered the term, "PETRONOVELA", a term which describes what has currently been happening with Petron over the past year.

Via Snow Badua, who interviewed Hector Calma which said that there would be no more trades for this conference (although he admitted they were cooking one previously) left Petroniverse to a sigh of relief.

Sure there had been questions on whether Jay Washington and Arwind Santos co-exist... But in the past 2 games including their statement win against Rain or Shine, Jay managed to show that he can co-exist with his team mates and bring his level of play up to how it was known to be when he won 2 Best Player of the Conference Awards before being injured and sidelined for a long time. I guess trade rumors got the better of him than Gary David (this is just an opinion).

I just hope that Jay will have a chance to bond more with the new guys in the Petron camp. I hope the NO MORE TRADE continues on. Enough of the problems. I know Petron can make things work.
