PBA Trade Approved: Raymundo and Reyes swap (Ginebra - Meralco trade)

 

BGSM and Kerby Raymundo officially parted ways as they dealt the big man to Meralco for Jay-R Reyes. The trade rumors had been ongoing 2 months ago where Raymundo has seen limited minutes with Ginebra despite its big men problems.

He would not have a hard time with Meralco as he will be reunited with his former coach, Ryan Gregorio to whom he shares 3 championships when he was still with Purefoods. 

“Kerby brings a lot of ‘positives’ in our dynamics. He knows how to win and he still has a lot of good basketball left in his tank,” Gregorio said.

The Meralco coach also thinks that Kerby will be able to mentor Rabeh Al Hussaini whom they acquired in a recent trade.

Reyes meanwhile will be with his fifth team after stints with Welcoat/Rain or Shine, Air21 and Alaska and Meralco. His presence in the hardcourt seems to be important for Ginebra as Reyes does not clog the shaded lane and can shoot jumpers.

Beau Belga cut from Final 12 in Gilas Pilipinas

 

The hard-working big man from the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters Beau Belga was the last man out as Coach Chot Reyes formed his Final 12 for the Fiba-Asia tournament to be held on August 1-11, 2013.

“Beau Belga: the ultimate professional. Tough to tell him. But in the end he understood what’s best for the team. Dakila ka @bigboybelga30,” Reyes said in his Twitter account, @coachot, after he has submitted his Final 12 list.

Beau accepted the decision wholeheartedly, tweeted to his 12,000 followers on Twitter "Team ko din ang Gilas Pilipinas, bawal ang pusong mamon".

It is expected that Belga's training with Gilas will boost the season-ending campaign of his mother team, Rain or Shine Elasto Painters with the hopes to defend the Governors Cup trophy with their import, AZ Reid.

The Import Ordeal: Yeng Guiao willing to give Cornley a chance - provided he clears his name

 

In an interview with INTERAKTV, Rain or Shine Elasto Painters Head Coach Yeng Guiao is open to give a chance to Jamelle Cornley to return for the third conference to help them defend the title provided that the 2012 Governor's Cup Best Import can clear his name.

Yeng Guiao in his interview is quoted "“If he can prove that he’s the victim in this case, then I will give him a chance, Or if he has apologized for the issue and can still show that he can play good basketball that could help us win another championship, then I don’t think it will affect his chances of playing again for our team.”.

 

The third conference, stated to start on August 14 is still far from the coaches mind since a lot will still be in store, especially with the ongoing campaign of Rain or Shine Elasto Painters bannered by Bruno Sundov.

 

Cornley was the import of the Elasto Painters when it won its maiden title last year. He has stayed in the country for rehab and has served as Rain or Shine's practice player helping the team especially current import Bruno Sundov.

The Import Ordeal: Jamelle Cornley arrested

Former Rain or Shine import Jamelle Cornley was arrested Wednesday morning after going beserk at Sir Williams Hotel in Quezon City where he claims that he has lost $1,400 to a bunch of hookers.

Station Chief Marcelino Pedrozo enumerated the five charges that are being readied against the former Governors Cup Best Import: Alarm and scandal (for running amok in the hotel), malicious mischief (for damage to properties of Sir William’s hotel), disrespect of police authorities, resisting arrest and direct assault. Pedrozo also said that if something happens to the police that Cornley punched, he would have another charge for it as well.

The police was later on identified to be P01 Anselmo Lazatin, who was rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center.

Spin.ph posted a video of Jamelle Cornley explaining that he was the victim in here, that he wanted to get his money back and no one tried to help him.

Cornley helped Rain or Shine Elasto Painters win its first franchise title last year. He stayed in the Philippines for rehab and has helped current ROS import Bruno Sundov as a practice player for the team.

Caloy Garcia is the new PBA D-League Erase Placenta Coach

 

There's a rainbow always after the rain.

Yeng Guiao's lead assistant at the PBA team Rain or Shine Elasto Painters has added another milestone to his coaching resume. Assistant Coach Caloy Garcia is the new head coach of PBA D-League team Erase Placenta replacing fellow NCAA coach Aric Del Rosario who would like to concentrate in the campaign of his Altas team in the collegiate league. 

Coach Caloy would be taking over a team which record currently  stands at 2-6 but would still have the chance to enter the quarterfinals when they sweep their last 2 games.

Finals Watch: Jeff Chan of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters

Before the start of the 2013 Philippine Cup Finals between Rain or Shine vs. Talk and Text, News Bits Online would be highlighting some of the key players of the series, starting of with last year's Most Improved Player, Jeff Chan.

Jeff Chan rose to the challenge of Coach Yeng Guiao by helping Rain or Shine finish San Mig Coffee in 6 games last January 3 with his 27 points despite not starting and entering the game on the 2nd quarter, He would be expected to show up with a loaded Talk and Text team gunning for the Jun Bernardino (Perpetual) trophy.

PBA Friday Recap: Coffee Mixers, Aces tie Semifinals Series

James Yap had its personal high of 34 points to help the San Mig Coffee Mixers tie the series against the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters by beating them 106-82.

It was an off-shooting for almost everyone in the Elasto Painters bench, they were just led by Rodriguez and Quinahan with 12 points, which made Coach Yeng Guiao quipped that it seemed that his team talked about not playing well come Game 2.

PBA Sunday: Rain or Shine completes All Filipino Final 4

Uncharacteristically in the half-time huddle, Coach Yeng Guiao has become soft-spoken, emphasizing to his boys: "shoot the ball when you are open, Ronnie (Matias), do not hesitate on an open shot" and it translated to a better second-half performance as Rain or Shine books the last semifinals seat beating Ginebra San Miguel (102-89) to battle against last season's Governors Cup rivals, San Mig Coffee Mixers in a Best of Seven series come Wednesday, December 19.

Lead by Paul Lee's 25 points and Gabe Norwood's bounce back 21 points, The Elasto Painters proved that they can finish of a game despite a comeback by the Gin Kings in the 3rd Quarter.

Ginebra was lead by LA Tenorio's 20 points and Billy Mamaril's 20, which was his career game before fouling out with time left in regulation.

PBA Wednesday: Best of Three Game 1 Results

Wednesday, December 12, 2012 is the start of the PBA Quarterfinal Round featuring the no. 3 seeded Rain or Shine Elasto Painters versus the no. 6 Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and the no. 4 seeded Meralco Bolts versus the no. 5 seeded Alaska Aces. Both games would be played in a Best-of-Three Series.

Expected to lead Rain or Shine is the comebacking Paul Lee together with the Extra Rice Inc. while Ginebra would be bannered by reigning MVP Mark Caguioa, the up and coming rookie Chris Ellis  and of course, the Barangay Big Dome (whenever Ginebra is playing).

Rain or Shine Assistant Coach Roehl Nadurata dies

ROS Assistant Coach Roehl Nadurata succumbed to the complications arising from lung cancer. He was 74.

Nadurata was last seen just last conference as he helped catapulted Rain or Shine to its first title (Governors Cup). He was a long-time colleague/partner of Head Coach Yeng Guiao as he served as an assistant coach during Guiao's stint with Swift, Pepsi, Air 21, and Red Bull.

The PBA Press Corps gave due recognition yesterday, September 10 at Kamayan to those who have achieved during the past PBA season, lead by Yeng Guiao of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters who received the Coach of the Year Award and Raymond Yu and Terry Que of Rain or Shine Elasto Painters receiving the Danny Floro Executives of the Year Award.
