Official Statement of TNT on Jared Dillinger car accident

After a serious blow to their roster with Kelly Williams opting to go on medical leave because of his recurring blood disorder, (ITP), Talk and Text suffers another lost to their lineup as Jared Dillinger was involved in a car accident after their Game 1 loss to Ginebra while driving along South Superhighway in his SUV.

A series of news reports have surmounted until today that Talk and Text issued a statement regarding Dillinger's accident, detailing the extent of injury that he sustained.

Official Statement from TNT issued by Team Manager Aboy Castro:
"Some time after TNT’s Semi final Game 1 last Friday, Apr 26, Jared Dillinger figured in a vehicular accident along the South Superhighway on his way home. He was alone in his SUV. No one else was injured and no property was damaged.
Jared was brought to the Makati Medical Center and immediately subjected to a battery of tests. The left iliac wing (pelvic bone) was found to have a comminuted fracture with 60% inward displacement. This type of fracture poses a risk to professional basketball players who have to deal with all the running, jumping and contact involved with the sport.
On Wednesday Jared will undergo a procedure to realign his pelvis and stabilize the fracture with metal plates and screws. He will not be ambulatory for 6-12 weeks to allow the bone to heal. Then he will start the long rehabilitation process to allow him to come back and play at the highest level of professional basketball. This process will take anywhere between 3-6 months depending on how Jared’s body responds to the operation and the rehab.
Jared will miss the rest of the PBA Season and will not be part of the Gilas campaign this coming August."

AKTV/Paul Ryan Tan

The PBA Office has approved the following trades which involve Global Port Batang Pier (on 2 different transactions)

1. A direct swap that brings Rabeh Al Hussaini to Talk and Text for the very controversial Japeth Aguilar who gets his wish to be traded, He is now with Global Port Batang Pier.

2. Meralco dealt Solomon Mercado, JP Belencion, Yousif Aljamal and Kelly Nabong for Global Port's Rey Guevarra, Josh Vanlandingham, Vic Manuel and a 2015 draft pick.

Meanwhile, Rabeh Al Hussaini would be reunited with college mentor Norman Black in Tropang Texters.

With the trade, Japeth should play his A-game with Batang Pier because this is what he wanted.

Who wins? That we can find out as PBA Commissioner's Cup tips off February 8 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Talk and Text Tropang Texters, 2013 Philippine Cup Champions

Talk and Text secures their place in league history as they sweep Rain or Shine Elasto Painters (105-82) Wednesday night to take home the Emilio "Jun" Bernardino Perpetual Trophy which is given to the team that wins 3 consecutive Philippine Cup championships.

Talk and Text throughout the game played well defensively, limiting E-Painters chance to catch up during the final quarter and taking the fight out of them.

Ranidel "Ranidirk" De Ocampo was awarded as the Papa John's PBA Press Corp Finals MVP.

This is Coach Norman Black's 11th championship as a coach in the PBA, his last one was with the Sta. Lucia Realtors back in 2001 before he went coaching into UAAP's Ateneo De Manila to which he won 5 straight titles.

tnt-air21 qf advancer

Talk and Text and San Mig Coffee enjoy a twice to beat advantage over their opponents.

1st Game: Talk and Text (no. 1) vs. Air 21 Express (no. 8) - Talk and Text eliminates Air 21, 105-100
Capitalizing on the end game mistakes of Air 21, Talk and Text pull of a victory to eliminate their opponents 105-100. Ranidel De Ocampo's clutch three pointer helped the cause and with Jimmy Alapag and Jayson Castro shooting on their free throws, it was enough to keep the Express off for them to gain the first semifinal seat of the ongoing PBA Philippine Cup Playoffs.

It was a night that shown Mike Cortez of the Air 21 Express play his best game at 21 points.

The scores:
TALK N’ TEXT 105 – Reyes 16, Fonacier 16, Castro 15, De Ocampo 13, Alapag 13, Aban 10, Dillinger 8, Peek 8, Williams 4, Carey 2, Raymundo 0.

It took another 5 minutes to decide this game which showed Mark Andy Barroca rising to the test. With Jonas Villanueva out with fever, The Coffee Prince showed that he can be Tim Cone's best guard scoring 15 points on extended shooting. San Mig Coffee coach Tim Cone described him as "Wolverine" and truly, his game really proved that.

San Mig Coffee had to face the comebacking Marcio Lassiter who was able to the spread the floor with his 3-point shooting until the 5:51 mark where he had a bad fall. He had to be taken out of the venue in a stretcher.

Talk and Text awaits for the winner of the Alaska - Meralco series (Alaska leads 1-0) and San Mig Coffee waits for the winner of the Rain or Shine - Ginebra series (ROS leads 1-0). Game 2 will be Friday (December 14) on the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

A Review of the Philippine Cup Format

An inter-intra format clusters the Air21 Express, Meralco Bolts, Petron Blaze Boosters, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings, and San Mig Coffee Mixers (formerly B-Meg) in Group A, and the Alaska Aces, Barako Bull Energy Cola, Global Port Batang Pier, Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, and the defending champion Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters in Group B.

Teams in each group will meet the other twice (10 games) and members of the other group once (4), completing the elimination phase. Fans will therefore be treated with the spectacle of crowd heavy Ginebra squaring off with Petron and San Mig Coffee twice while tangling with TNT, Alaska and Rain or Shine once and vice versa.

The top eight teams based on their cumulative win-loss records advance to the quarterfinals, while the 9th- and 10th-ranked teams get dropped from contention.

Rewarding the top two quarterfinalists with twice-to-beat advantage, QF1 has the No. 1 team battling No. 8 and No. 2 tangling with No. 7 in QF2.

A wringer awaits the four other qualifiers: No. 3 takes on No. 6 (QF3) and No. 4 faces No. 5 (QF4), both via best-of-three playoffs.

The four emerging playoff winners then move to the best-of-7 semifinal series under this matchup: QF1 winner vs. QF4 winner and QF2 winner vs. QF3 winner.

The championship series will also be a best-of-7 showdown.

Nash Racela to coach Talk and Text temporarily

Talk and Text Tropang Texters All Set to Defend AFC crown

Long-time Talk and Text Assistant Coach Nash Racela will take over head coaching duties, all be it temporarily as Coach Norman Black is to finish his UAAP season with ADMU.

Racela is a part of Coach Chot Reyes Smart Gilas coaching staff and the Energen Pilipinas youth team helmed by his brother, Olsen who is now the coach of Petron Blaze Boosters.

“We all know Coach Norman Black is still coaching the Ateneo team. He has to finish the season, the UAAP. Nash is our coach for the time being,” said Talk ‘N Text representative to the PBA Board of Governors Pato Gregorio.

Gregorio clarified that this assignment is temporarily for Coach Nash as Coach Norman to take over after UAAP.

From a Basketball Standpoint: The Changes that Norman Black and Olsen Racela would bring to their PBA teams

What  you would be reading in this blog post is based from the personal opinion of the owner of the blog which you may or may not agree with.

TALK AND TEXT: NORMAN BLACK

The man is no stranger to the PBA, he was a grandslam coach for San Miguel Beermen and has been the Tropang Texters Consultant for quite a long time. Now coming back to head coaching duties is Mr. 100% Norman Black who would be taking over the position left by multi-titled Coach Chot Reyes who would be coaching Smart Gilas 2.

What he would bring to the Talk and Text table?
His coaching experience that stemmed from the late 80s to present. We have seen it in Ateneo, his bag of tricks that enabled the Blue Eagles to win 4 straight titles in UAAP. He is able to strike out the best with his players, and probably the biggest change he would make is not the game of TNT but how fans look at TNT.

TNT had a fair-share of bashers because of their Coach Chot Reyes but with Norman in the helm I think everything would tone down.

If ever they renew Japeth Aguilar, Norman Black could definitely use Japeth as he know how he plays back in his ADMU days.

PETRON BLAZE BOOSTERS: OLSEN RACELA

Olsen returns on the hardcourt as the head man of Petron Blaze Boosters replacing Coach Ato Agustin with the management seeing the 2011 Governors Cup Champions falter during the 37th Season. Olsen is no stranger to the San Miguel/Petron franchise, he was San Miguel's high point man and team captain, learning the best basketball from Coach Ron Jacobs and Coach Jong Uichico. Prior to the head coaching job, Olsen was already behind the Petron bench as an Assistant Coach after his retirement.

With Olsen being the choice of majority of Petron players, I see that Olsen would change how the team relate to each other, that the PBB bench, though filled with star studded players are of equals. It is also expected that Olsen would run the plays he learned from his head coaches to his now players. If coaching experience is questioned, see how Energen Pilipinas U-18 and tell me if Olsen cannot make it big as a coach in the PBA.

I hope Coach Olsen can emphasize TEAM in BASKETBALL, that whatever players would be left there after PBA Draft Day, they would be able to capitalize, just as how they won the 2011 Governors Cup Finals.

We wish Coaches Olsen and Norman best of luck with their teams.

Powerade's Sneed brings them to victory

It took a big game from Omar Sneed and the spark from recent acquisition Rey Guevarra for the Powerade Tigers to beat Talk and Text Tropang Texters in the 1st game of the Sunday Showdown (June 3).

Sneed was able to turn around the Talk and Text first half damage with 32 points and Guevarra was able to chip in 8 of his 11 in the final quarter for the Tigers to get back in the standings at 2-2.

Paul Harris lead the Texters with his 22 points and Alapag with 17, the team falls behind 1-3 which is critical in the short tournament. (Governors Cup would only play single round = 9 games only and bottom 4 teams to be eliminated and 6 would go to the Semifinals).

The scores:
Powerade (110) – Sneed 32, David 28, Guevarra 11, Al-Hussaini 10, Casio 8, Lingganay 7, Salvador 6, Anthony 4, Antonio 2, Vanladingham 2, Tugade 0.
Talk ‘N Text (105) – Harris 22, Alapag 17, Peek 16, De Ocampo 15, Williams 13, Fonacier 11, Gamalinda 5, Aban 2, Aguilar 2, Dillinger 2, Alvarez 0, Raymundo 0.
Quarterscores: 20-25, 44-51, 78-68, 110-105.

Texters play Meralco despite crippled roster

Paul Harris would have his hands full later as the Talk and Text Tropang Texters would be playing their first game minus their key players at second game versus Meralco Bolts. With Castro, Alapag, Williams and Reyes not playing, Talk and Text Coach Chot Reyes could only wish they had more time to rest, but they can't.

Harris, who bankrolled the Texters in the 2011 Commissioner's Cup would definitely have a lot in his hands tonight.

Meanwhile, the Bolts will have a familiar face with Champ Oguchi, a reinforcement who has been with them and could be a good compliment to their shooters Cardona, Mercado and Ross.

A Tale of Two Coaching Geniuses

Photo: During the Finals Press Conference (INQUIRER)

The ongoing Finals series between B-Meg Derby Ace Llamados and Talk and Text Tropang Texters is not just about Denzel Bowles, Donell Harvey or even the locals like Jimmy Alapag, Peter June Simon, Marc Pingris or James Yap, It is also about their coaches: Tim Cone and Chot Reyes, who both come from a winning tradition and are poised to be champions.

Tim is no stranger to championship runs - He has been a Grandslam coach (Alaska in 1996) and has successfully catapulted his team then (Aces) for 13 championships ever since he started coaching in the country back in 1989. Now with B-Meg, he hopes to add more championships to his name, He has successfully imparted his basketball knowledge to his new boys, with the help of his former Alaska wards turned Assistant Coaches Jeffrey Cariaso and Johnny Abarrientos, but it would still be better if they win the championship -  far cry from where they were last conference, eliminated by Powerade Tigers during the first round of the Philippine Cup, which the Llamados has considered their inspiration to grow as a team.

Chot meanwhile is one of the greatest coaches in present PBA history. He has been to the finals for the past 5 conferences and has won 4 championships (they lost in the 2011 Governors Cup to the injury depleted Petron Blaze). He has a lot of wards that bring true to his coaching masterpiece, He has employed a discipline that even if Donell Harvey would have an off-night, his locals would step up and bring their import's performance on a higher level. Now on his second to the last conference as Tropa's Head Coach, his players would like to give their best and give Chot a championship or even two before their coach goes to the Smart Gilas 2 squad.

Whatever would happen, these two coaches are the epitomy of basketball IQ, and I salute them both, it's now a matter of will and desire to win 4 games, as par as coaching is concerned, both teams are absolute equal.

Semifinals Match 1: Barako Bull Energy vs. Talk and Text Tropang Texters

UPDATE: Barako Bull Energy beats Alaska Aces 105 - 86
Best Player: Gabe Freeman 34 pts. 19 rebs.

The first Semifinals date is set, Barako Bull Energy wrapped their Best of 3 series with Alaska Aces booking a date with the Tropang Texters for the Semifinals which would start on the next play date (April 10). Gabe Freeman living up to his name as a 2-time Best Import.

As they set the date, Barako cannot be considered "inexperienced", they've already live up to the monicker "Ang Bumangga, Giba...". Seigle, Pennisi, Pena, Arboleda, Miller are all veterans and have championships across their name. It would be interesting how a talent-loaded Texters would dangle with Barako and how they can defend their title this conference by winning the Semifinals and going back to the promise land, Finals.

Talk and Text, coming from a long rest should not be doubted, they have a prolific team and core headed by Jimmy Alapag, I'm sure the #TNTNATION would like to give now Smart Gilas Coach Chot Reyes a championship before going on the international arena.

This is CHAMPIONSHIP EXPERIENCE vs. COMBINED VETERAN WITS

Can Talk and Text be one step closer to the Finals, or will the Barako Bull Energy lead by 2-time best import Gabe Freeman commit an upset to the defending champions.

Alex Cabagnot trends anew Worldwide

The long-haired Petron Blaze point guard proved that despite his off-games, winning-time matters the most. He hit the game-winning triple that gave the Boosters 2-1 advantage over the Tropang Texters, 95-93.

Jared Dillinger makes the TNT-Ginebra match interesting

The last elimination round game featuring the defending champions Talk and Text Tropang Texters and Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings would not start in less than 6 hours but Jared Dillinger, the swingman of Talk and Text Tropang Texters had made this interesting with his recent tweet about Mark Caguioa's hairdo:

Of course, Barangay Ginebra fans quickly reacted to what Dillinger tweeted. Mark has actually sported a lot of hair styles ever since he went pro back in 2001 (mohawk and all others that Mark tried) and it is only Jared Dillinger who had the guts to tell this. I don't even know if Jared would play today since he's been out with an injury. Mark has shown why he has been a candidate for Most Valuable Player a couple of times. If Mark is finding motivation in today's game, Jared should be blamed for giving him one.

** Today's game would not affect anymore who gets to have the twice-to-beat advantage as Tropang Texters and the Llamados had already secured it. Only playoff pairings would be decided today. Quarterfinals set to start on Wednesday with 1 and 8 and 2 and 7 (as per photo presented by the San Miguel Basketball Games Updates, a photo of the memorandum signed by Atty. Chito Salud - PBA Commissioner)

Who am I going to cheer for? Just the Elasto Painters (My second favorite team) I would just be an interested spectator with the TNT - Ginebra match.

4 Teams, 2 Games for the final leg of the Philippine Cup eliminations

Rain or Shine, Ginebra and Talk and Text have a chance to tightening up their hold in the team standings on the last elimination round play date of the 2011-2012 PBA Philippine Cup.

At 4:15 pm, Rain or Shine takes on Alaska, though this is a no-bearing game for the Aces after being out for the QF, expect the wards of Alaska Head Coach Joel Banal to do their best to end their conference & 2011 with a bang.

Rain or Shine would rely heavily on their prized rookie, Paul Lee, the "extra-rice" partners JR Quinahan and Beau Belga, Gabe Norwood and Ryan Arana.

At 6:30 pm, crowd-favorites Barangay Ginebra battle the defending champions, Talk and Text Tropang Texters. With Ginebra locked at 4th, expect them to go all out against Chot Reyes' Tropa who already secured twice-to-beat advantage going to the Quarterfinals. Barangay Ginebra is lead by MC47, JC Intal, Billy Mamaril while Talk and Text would rely on Kelly Williams, Japeth Aguilar, Harvey Carey, Jimmy Alapag and their key reserves, after all, they are still the team to beat.

Remember the 4 Scenarios? Let's see what would uphold as the day ends tomorrow. If you have the chance, do watch the games live at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum tomorrow, December 11 or at your TV sets (AKTV).
