No Pingris for FIBA-Asia Cup in Japan

Marc Pingris is still recuperating from the neck injury he suffered during the Governors Cup Finals which is why he would not be able to join Smart Gilas, says National Coach Chot Reyes.

Marc was expected to beef up Gilas front-line by collaring those rebounds and defense over the athletes that they would be facing.

Chot Reyes and his coaching wards will announce their final line-up for Fiba-Asia by tomorrow.

PBA Trade: Who got the most of it? Air 21, Petron or Ginebra?

KG Canaleta goes to Air 21 in a 3 team 7 man player trade

The PBA on Thursday morning approved the proposed trade featuring seven players and two draft picks among Air 21, Ginebra, and Petron.

In the deal, the Express will receive Petron big men Noy Baclao and Rob Reyes and Ginebra wingmen KG Canaleta and John Wilson; Petron will receive center Magi Sison, guard Paolo Hubalde, and a 2014 second round pick from Air 21; and Ginebra will receive Elmer Espiritu and Air 21′s first round pick in 2013.

Who got the most of the trade? I assume it is Air 21: http://www.interaksyon.com/interaktv/pba-approves-seven-player-deal-among-air-21-ginebra-petron

The Winners and the Losers of the PBA Draft 2012

In life, there are always winners and losers, that includes even playing for the PBA, here is the list of the Winners and the Losers of the PBA Draft.

Winner: The Top 3 picks (Alex Mallari (PBB), Junemar Fajardo (PBB) and Calvin Abueva (ALA)

Junemar has been assured of getting the maximum pay of a rookie which amounts to P 8.5 million in 3 years and is assured to be used in the basketball game because of his towering height and to how he can create mismatches for the opponents. Calvin Abueva would provide enough muscle inside and can create his own shots which he proved as he is the reigning 2011 NCAA MVP for San Sebastian Stags while Alex Mallari, the surprise 3rd pick, knows the game he has to show to prove the world that he deserves to be called #3 pick.

Winner: Petron Blaze Boosters

The moment that we knew that Petron gets the #1 pick and Fajardo entered the draft, they are already a winner, hopefully, this will help solve the problems they have last season. Coach Olsen Racela would definitely have a lot to handle when he comes back from the Energen U-18 in Mongolia.

Winner: Rain or Shine Elasto Painters drafting Chris Tiu
Who would have thought that Chris Tiu would be drafted 7th by the E-Painters? See the big grin on Coach Yeng Guiao's face just like he has won the jackpot? Chris may be old for a rookie at 27, but his Gilas experience and other international stints he has played for will help the cause of the recent champions, Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in their quest for back-to-back titles especially that Paul Lee may not see action yet during the first conference.

Loser: The One Who Made the Rain or Shine Paintbrush
This is just to add humor to this content but I think the paintbrush is too oversized, especially when Chris held it.

Winner: Chris Tiu on not having to worry about Beau Belga during games
I don't know if Chris should consider himself lucky that he does not have to worry about Beau Belga during games but then again, it is a win-win situation that he teams up with the Extra-Rice Incorporated during the 38th season.

Loser: Ginebra Fans (and Fangirls)
When Commissioner Chito Salud announced that the 6th pick is Chris... everybody was anticipating for it to be Chris Tiu but I sense disappointment when it  eventually became Chris Ellis.

Winner: A Quick Change of Jackets for Aldrech Ramos
When Aldrech was picked #5 by Barako Bull Energy, he was surprised to be picked highly in the draft, but moments later, he had to change jackets for he was traded, the only rookie trade that happened that day to join the B-Meg Derby Ace Llamados.

Winner: Meralco Bolts
Getting Cliff Hodge at  4 and contributors such as Kelly Nabong and Janus Lozada may solve the puzzle of Coach Ryan Gregorio on why they have not entered the finals during their first 2 seasons as a franchise.

Winner: Chris Ellis and Keith Jensen
The 6th and 8th pick of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel would definitely have the chance to grow with the team which is laden with talent and to be developed to be the next superstar. They would also have a large fan-base for starters.

Wait and See: Global Port Batang Pier
After being accepted with open arms, the draft saw Global Port Batang Pier being involved early, dealing Sean Anthony to get picks in the draft which I hope would be useful for the Mikee Romero franchise.

Loser: The Draft Picks of the Last 3 Rounds
With the enormous amount of talent there was in the recently concluded draft, let us admit it that not everybody can play. I can only assume that those who were drafted in the first two rounds will be offered live contracts, but this is not the end for those draftees who would not be able to make it, they just have to keep working hard for PBA teams to notice them. We have seen several unsigned rookies helping PBA teams bigtime.

The search for Robredo: One of the Philippines' most effective and trustworthy public officials

At about 5 p.m. on August 18, a private plane carrying Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo, his aide, and two pilots crashed off Masbate. Only his aide, Jun Abrasado, was found by rescuers who immediately went in the area.

Robredo was scheduled to attend a political event in Naga City, his hometown. Before the plane reached Masbate airport, the pilot sent a distress call requesting for an emergency landing. But the plane did not reach the airport and crashed a few meters to the sea.

A few people know about Sec. Robredo. I even did not know anything about him until he became the DILG secretary two years ago. He was appointed by President Aquino to the country's executive department, which aims to promote peace and order, ensure public safety, and strengthen the capabilities of local government units.

At the age of 29, Robredo became the youngest City Mayor of the country. He served as the mayor of Naga City from 1988 to 1998, and 2001 to 2010. Since he entered politics, he received 14 major individual awards, including the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award for Government Service in 2001, and the Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World (TOYP) Award in 1996. On his 19 years as a mayor, he showed that democratic government can also be good government.

Also under his term, Naga City became a "Hall of Famer" for winning every year a "Galing Pook" award, a competition for the best local government units (LGUs). Robredo even traveled from Tuguegarao to Tawi Tawi to mentor mayors on how they can provide children with better education.

Robredo's political achievements were backed up by his excellent education. He is an Edward Mason Fellow and a graduate of Masters in Public Administration at the prestigious John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1999. Ranked as the number 1 scholar, he completed his Masters in Business Administration at the University of the Philippines in 1985. He obtained his undergraduate degrees in Industrial Management Engineering and Mechanical Engineering at the De La Salle University.

A humble man, Robredo did not intend to run as a governor in Camarines Sur for two reasons: a generally different constituency, and lack of money and resources. His principle is that good performance and good politics can go together. He believes that it's not just governing and engaging, but it's also building a strong political network. But before looking at the political dimension, he first looks at the principle dimension of the things he do.

Robredo's dedication to the country's improvement is also seen by his membership in the Synergeia Foundation Inc., a project, consisting of individuals, institutions, and organizations, that looks towards improving the quality of public education in the Philippines. It collaborates with local governments, the Department of Education (DepEd), socio-civic groups, schools, teachers, parents and students to implement systemic programs that will improve the processes, systems and structures of learning and teaching.

Even before Robredo was appointed to the DILG post, he believed in one lasting legacy: making the NagueƱo believe in himself. When typhoon Reming hit the country, especially the Bicol Region, Naga City showed resiliency and despite the absence of national government assistance, it can move on, and it can even be better than the other local government units.

"The reason is, people believe that they can do it. All the others are merely incidental."

It's been two days, and search and rescue operations are still being conducted in the hopes to find Robredo and the pilots. His family longs to find him, but braces themselves for the worst. Prayers pour in from public officials for his safety.

Hang on, Sir. We will soon find you.
