The 31st Death Anniversary of Senator Benigno Ninoy Aquino Jr. will be celebrated on Thursday, August 21, 2014. The national government declares it as a national holiday way back in 2004 when former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo signed R.A. 9265.

President Benigno Simeon Aquino meanwhile had included Ninoy Aquino Holiday in 2014 Holidays via Proclamation 655 citing the Republic Act signed by Former President Arroyo.

Senator Aquino was assasinated in 1983 upon his return from his self-exile from the United States. His death caused several uprisings in Manila, which lead to the People Power Revolution that saw his wife, the late President Cory Aquino in power by 1986.
