SELFIE wins as Word of the Year

The word "selfie" was declared as "Salita ng Taon" by the Filipinas Institute of Translation. It was nominated by Dr. Luna Siclat-Cleto of the University of the Year and beat 12 other words which were part of the culture for year 2013 and 2014.

2nd slot was for the word "endo" which was nominated by Dr. David Michael San Juan and John Michael Briones of Dela Salle University.

3rd slot goes for the word "Filipinas" nominated by professor Dr. Rebecca Anonuevo of Miriam College. 

In a report from GMA News, all nominated words were presented last Friday, September 26, 2014 which was the second day of the three-day Sawikaan Pambansang Kumperensiya sa Wika organized by the FIT.

Selfie was added to the previous "salita ng taon" which included ‘wangwang’ (2012), ‘jejemon’ (2010), ‘miskol’ (2007), ‘lowbat’ (2006), ‘huweteng’ (2005), and ‘canvass’ (2004).

Darren thanks Kris for guardian offer

The Voice Kids Finalist Darren Espanto thanks Ms. Kris Aquino for offering to be his guardian when his dad, Lyndon goes back to Canada this week.
Espanto will be staying in Manila fulfilling his showbiz commitments while his parents will be back abroad. Most of his relatives are staying in the Philippines and will look after the singer while his parents are away.
In an ABS-CBNNews.com interview, Espanto said "Nakakatuwa po si Ms. Kris at saka I'm so happy na sinasabi niya po 'yan. Sabi po ni daddy gustong gusto po niya, very thankful po kami kay Ms. Kris po."
Espanto also mentioned that acting projects may be done in the future and asks the "Darrenatics" to watch out.

New Contest for Miss Asia Pacific World after Myanmar dethronement

A new contest for Miss Asia Pacific World 2014 will be held later this year (November 8) instead of the usual title going to the 1st Runner Up after the dethronement of Myanmar's May Myat Noe.

It was unclear as to why 1st Runner Up Kim Eea of Korea may cannot received the crown, the competition in November 8 will be held in Jeju Island, South Korea. 

Ms May Myat Noe, winner of Miss Asia Pacific World Super Talent 2014, was flown to South Korea to be groomed to be a K-pop star after winning the pageant in May.

But she was stripped of her crown for alleged dishonesty and bad behaviour, with organisers later claiming she had absconded with the crown and free breast implants. 

Event spokesman David Kim, who is in Seoul, told reporters that organisers had paid US$10,000 (S$12,490) for a breast enlargement operation to help her budding singing career. 

In the most recent statement, organisers said: "We are very sad to announce that Miss Asia Pacific World 2014 Queen May Myat Noe from Myanmar got dethroned. She won her title and crown on May this year, but couldn't full fill her obligations as the winner."

The organizers also promised that the new winner of Miss Asia Pacific World 2014 will go on to go to the showbiz industry. 

Miss Asia Pacific World 2014 Philippine bet was Hillarie Danielle Parungao who was crowned 3rd Runner Up.

Even with Cancer, Mark Gil insisted to play Dante Ramos in The Legal Wife

When the late Mark Gil was offered to  play the role of Dante Ramos on The Legal Wife, He knew already he was ill. 

The late Mark Gil or Ralph John Eigenmann in the real life was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2012 but requested to keep his ailment a secret according to the statement read by his brother Michael De Mesa. 

For most part, according to Director Rory Quintos, Gil never looked sick, it was only during the time when the series was about to be finished in June that they noticed that the actor has lost a lot of weight - the same time he learned that the cancer was terminal. 

Mark Gil can be remembered as a great actor, not just in The Legal Wife but in his many other movies and TV shows he has done in the past. 

Gil is survived by his parents Eddie Mesa and Rosemarie Gil, siblings Cherie Gil and Michael de Mesa, wife Maricar and their daughter Stephanie Cheri, and his five other children from three past relationships.

Senator Chiz Escudero and Heart Evangelista are now engaged

Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero and actress-host Heart Evangelista are now engaged. The engagement was confirmed through the photos posted by their celebrity friends through their Instagram accounts.

In the photo she posted, Lovi Poe mentions in the caption: “I’m so happy for you guyz! Chiz and Heart. You finally found someone who gives you the feeling that people write novels about. Someday when the time comes, all I have to do is look at you both and always remember to choose happiness more than anything in this world."

The senator in his previous interviews quoted that he wanted to marry Heart before his term as a senator ends in 2016.

The Heart-Chiz engagement is a trending topic on various social media sites.
