News about international syndicates trying to copy data from your ATM card to steal money from your account have been all over the Metro lately, so here are some tips to protect yourself (and your hard-earned money) from those ATM scams.
(1) - Be alert
Upon reaching the ATM machine, make sure that no one would be peeping on you on your transaction, if you are uncomfortable, let them go first, complete your transaction by having everything intact.
Check if there is something wrong with the ATM card reader - you would know if something's different, if found, do not pursue transaction.
(2) - Withdraw at a machine where a lot of people does
ATM machines are everywhere, but do your transaction on an ATM machine that is frequented at by depositors - ATM's at malls, outside of the banks, groceries and other public places. As much as possible, keep your

(4) - Report captured card immediately
If in case that your card gets captured because of a device installed in the machine, report it immediately to your bank.
News reports have shown that depositors withdrawing over the ATM have encountered their machine offlining during their transaction - as bad as it may sound, it does happen, so whenever you encounter this, relax, use your mobile phone and call your bank immediately.
(5) - Use internet to your advantage: apply for Online Banking and check account balance often.
Technology has brought the advancement of everything, even stealing money - so if you have the time, do apply for online banking for you to keep track of your transactions. You may never know how this culprits copy your data so it is better to be safe (than sorry).
