DOLE pay rules on April 9 holiday

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced pay rules for April 9 regular holiday, which will be observed as a Day of Valor (Araw ng Kagitingan).

Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz reminded employers to comply with the standards for workers on this day.

"I call on the country's employers in the private sector to voluntary comply with core labor standards to ensure the social protection of our workers during this regular holiday," Baldoz said in a statement.

An employee who reports for work during a regular holiday shall be entitled to 200 percent of his regular pay for that day for the first eight hours, and for work in excess of the eight hours, an additional 30 percent of his hourly rate.

If the day falls on his rest day and he goes to work, he shall be paid an additional 30 percent of his daily rate of 200 percent. For work in excess of eight hours on those days, he gets an additional 30 percent of his hourly rate.

An employee who does not render work during a regular holiday is still entitled to 100 percent of his day's salary.
