Corona tried to leave Senate after the walk-out

Chief Justice Renato Corona tried to leave the Senate building after his dramatic walkout at the end of his opening statement in the impeachment trial Tuesday.

Footage taken by a Senate source showed that Corona and his wife was caught on cam at a corridor near the elevator beside the Senate lounge.

ABS-CBN correspondent Lynda Jumilla said the elevator is used by senators to go straight to the basement of the Senate, which also serves as the parking lot.

Corona, however, was blocked from using the VIP access route by 7 members of the Senate sergeant at arms and a member of the Senate legal department. This was after Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile ordered a lockdown of the building after Corona left the witness stand before he could be discharged.

The footage showed Corona sitting with his wife and then talking to members of his defense team.
He was later brought back to the Senate courtroom onboard a wheelchair.

Enrile later admonished the defense team and said due respect should be given to the Senate impeachment court.
